And his dream was when he realized the city kids were swimming at the pool, no, the lake in the summer while he was weeding, you know, in the farm and taking care of the cows and chickens.

But he slowly worked his way out of that situation, became a welder, and eventually fulfilled his dream of visiting Stura Landetivesten, which is what they called America, the big country out west.

He managed to get to the U.S. with his Canadian bride and his three-year-old daughter and two-year-old son.

And the three of us lived in Washington State while he was working up in Alaska on the pipeline.

he was you know cat was away mice were playing or however you want to word it he was not being entirely faithful uh and my mother at home with three kids you know young kids and she was a very young mother she you know gave birth at 17 to the daughter you do the math the marriage fell apart there was alcohol involved and um My mother was awarded full custody because that was what happened in those days.

I think that was coincidence, but it makes it easy for me to remember because I was sitting in the living room, unpacking the spent fireworks from the night before, taking all the gunpowder because my little nine-year-old mind wanted to make a bomb.

in my book that tells this tale, The People of the Sign, You know, fireworks, even explosive, aren't necessarily what blows up the lives of little children.
