In fact, if you were a first century Jew, you were also looking for a new beginning because you were in exile, right? You were being ruled by a foreign power, the Roman Empire, just like the Israelites once had been ruled by Egypt.
You were in slavery it felt once again, but you as a good Jew knew the scriptures.
You knew there was a promise of a second exodus, a second time when God will come and free his people from oppression once more.
And so you were longing for a new beginning.
And so I think ever since then, all of us have this desire within us for a new start, a new beginning, and it's embedded within our culture, right? In this particular moment, cult- the culture feels like that that new beginning is just around the corner.

You see, Mark wants us to go back to the first beginning, because what he's saying is, there is a new beginning and it starts now.
It starts now.
It has finally arrived.
