Calvary

Next, ask what their belief is concerning the person of Jesus Christ, whether He is the eternal Son of the eternal God, born of a virgin, the perfect man, and the perfect God.

Ascertain their attitude toward the atoning work of the Lord Jesus Christ on Calvary.

Find out what they believe concerning the eternal destiny of those who reject Jesus Christ and refuse to believe in Him as Savior through faith in His blood.

Such a test reveals the truth of their doctrine.

Especially those who are in most need of Thy mercy

The fourth sorrowful mystery, our Lord carries the cross to Calvary.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name.

Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

This is something Mary knew profoundly.

The Catechism teaches that Mary's union with her son unfolded throughout his earthly life and reached a unique intensity at Calvary.

She did not understand love from a safe distance.

She remained with Jesus.

Calvary is killing every giant that could ever come against you.

You talk about touching us.

He touched us in our impurity and he went to the place where the wrath was poured out.

And on Calvary, you do understand that the gospel, the heart of the gospel is the fact that our defilement was dealt with.

God poured out all of his wrath on his only begotten son when he made him sin for us and he hung on that cross.

Yeah.

When Jesus was hanging on the cross of Calvary, and from the sixth hour till the ninth hour, there was a darkness over all the land.

And at the end of that ninth hour, Jesus cried, "Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?" What'd he cry? "My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?" Yeah.

You know what happened right then? Jesus became the sin for us.

Yeah.

There on Calvary's cruel tree.

Yeah.

God made him to become sin.

That may startle some, for there are those who pray the Lord to give them a greater love for souls as though it were something that could be handed to them on a platter.

True love for souls is the white heat of a passion that has been ignited at the cross of Calvary.

It sees the world lost and hopeless apart from Christ and realizes that the Lord came from heaven to do something about it.

Because we have been redeemed by him, we desire that his purposes be satisfied and that for his sake the lost shall be brought to him.

Isaiah tells us that the Lord Jesus is satisfied when he sees a sinner make the soul of the Savior his substitute sin offering.

It is wonderful to contemplate the importance of his salvation to any sinner, but it is 10,000 times more important to contemplate the satisfaction that the sinner's salvation brings to the heart of the sinner's Savior.

It is when we see the travail of Calvary and know the heart of the Savior that we will develop a true love for souls.

For that love will be a very small byproduct of our love for the Savior and our desire to see him have what satisfies him.

All that being said, because we have those relationships with the Franciscans in particular, they have actually provided us with small pieces of the Holy Land to bring back and allow you and I to be able to touch those places.

So you can touch the rock of Calvary where our Lord Jesus Christ was crucified for us, out of love for us.

You can touch water from the Sea of Galilee.

You can touch wood from the olive trees in the garden of Gethsemane where Jesus prayed before he was arrested and began his passion.
