Isaiah

Think about this.

In the Book of Isaiah, it says, even eunuchs will one day-

Yeah

... worship God.

The, he, it says he had gone to Jerusalem to worship, and they turn him away.

Hmm.

And he's sitting there reading the Book [laughs] of Isaiah, so to speak-

Yeah

The scriptural basis for the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

So you have in front of you Isaiah 11, which Professor Hochschild has already put before us once.

And this is indeed the go-to place in Scripture to get that full listing of the gifts.

Isaiah 11, verses 1 to 3.

But a shoot shall sprout from the stump of Jesse, and from his roots a bud shall blossom.

The Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, a spirit of wisdom and of understanding, a spirit of counsel and of strength, a spirit of knowledge and of fear of the Lord, and his delight shall be the fear of the Lord.

Spanish Thomist of the 20th century, really an expert Dominican, and especially the spiritual tradition, but also just the overall theological tradition, Antonio Royo Marin, says that Christian tradition has always seen in this text the plenitude of the gifts of the Holy Ghost in the most holy soul of Christ.

And we'll return to that theme later in the second conference today.

So you have two Messiahs, a suffering Messiah and a ruling reigning Messiah, both coming or being revealed at the end of the age.

I just want to open up something for you in the book of Isaiah.

In the book of Isaiah, chapter 52, verses 13 through 15, where it describes the two comings in just three verses.

Then you say, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait.

Isaiah 52, isn't that leading up to Isaiah 53? That's not about the Messiah.

Well, hang on.

Isaiah 52, 13 begins with those famous words, I'll read to you from the new Jewish publication translation of the 1985, this came out, still one of the best.

So you'll see I'm not giving you my translation, okay? Indeed, my servant shall prosper, some would say, shall act wisely, be exalted and raised to great heights.

Often in the pages of Scripture, you will find God preparing a worker for a particular task by displaying a dramatic picture of himself.

Think back over the experiences of Isaiah, Ezekiel, and Moses.

Throughout history, God has prepared the workers before he turned them loose to do the work.

armed with a fresh, clear understanding of the great God they served, his men and women then confidently went out to perform the task that God had selected and equipped them for.

Today we are going to continue along here in the book of Isaiah.

Now, Isaiah chapter 29 in the heading is compared to 2 Nephi 27.

Nephi will embellish and expand on what we see here in Isaiah chapter 29.

But for all intents and purposes, let's go into chapter 29 and study from chapter 29.

So let's start in verse one.

Oftentimes when they talked about Judah, they would just say Jerusalem.

So as we know, at this time, the tribe of Judah and the city of Jerusalem were very wicked.

Right

... and to the Book of Isaiah, to the Book of Zechariah, that thread really becomes a, a woven tapestry with a distinct image-

Right

... of this, of the Messiah that emerges.

So perhaps we might want to go to the Book of Psalms and see the total image that emerges there as well as Isaiah and perhaps Zechariah as well.

That'd be good.

You know, I'm doing, we're doing an Old Testament commentary, which we hope to have done by August of 2026, and then typeset and have it in print by December of 2026.

Sun, moon, and stars going dark.

And Isaiah chapter 13, I think Isaiah chapter 34, Joel 2.

You'll find this all the way through Scripture where In fact, Joseph, remember, Israel is represented as sun, moon, and stars.

And this is also brought up in what we find in Revelation with the woman who is standing on the moon.

the false gods.

There's nothing new about God trolling the false gods in the Bible.

Deuteronomy 32, 17, Psalms 115 and 135, Isaiah 44, 17, Jeremiah 10, 5, Jeremiah verses 5, 8, and 9, Habakkuk 2, 18, and 19, and Revelation 20.

The Bible's filled with God trolling false gods.

I concluded that it may have been one of the seven spirits of God.

The seven spirits of God are mentioned in Isaiah and Revelations.

Each of the seven spirits are associated with one of the seven colors of the rainbow.

Magenta is not one of the colors associated with the spirits of God.
