Harrison LowmanGuestCharlie bit me.
Unacceptable.
That was just one of the words used today by Federal Auditor General Sheila Fraser in describing three government contracts she investigated.
It's so bad that the RCMP's Commercial Crime Unit will be asking their own questions about the contracts.
The short version is that about $100 million in federal ad and sponsorship money went to liberal-friendly firms for what the Auditor General said was little to no work.
By the spring of 2005, it had become so bad that the prime minister, Paul Martin, went on national TV to explain himself.
Good evening.
I want to talk to you directly tonight about the problems in the sponsorship program, about how I've responded to them as your prime minister, and about the timing of the next general election.
I am prepared to face Canadians and have them judge my response to this serious test of leadership.
