Last evening was being touted as the first of what we assume will be several debates for the mayoral candidates.

It was hosted by the Jewish Lawyers of Canada, moderated by Jesse Brown of Canada Land, and the focus was on public safety and anti-Semitism in our city.

The frontrunner was not there.

But somebody who was there and wants to give us a little bit of a flavor of what occurred in the first, I'll put it in quotation marks, debate of the mayor's race is our CTV Toronto, Queen's Park reporter Siobhan Morrison.

So this is a really big room, several hundred people, like less than 1,000 but more than 500.

I think it's always tricky for reporters to get into this crowd estimate business, but several hundred people.

And so you did have what were, in essence, these sort of longer form one-on-one interviews with the moderator, Jesse Brown, and Chris Alexander first.

and then Brad Bradford.

The lawyers group said it contacted Chow's team in early August and her ca- campaign didn't flag the timing of the event as a problem.

In Chow's absence, the format was changed to separate one-on-one interviews with Alexander and Bradford conducted by Jesse Brown, the founder of the Canada Land Media Company, who had been tapped as debate moderator.

Earlier in the day, Chow stood with Police Chief Myron Demkiw at Toronto Police headquarters to announce plans to increase police visibility ahead of the High Holy Days.

This will include deploying task force guardian officers who have tactical training and rifles in Jewish areas.

Canada land, right? That's not well played for the people.

In a previous interview, I was joined by Jesse Brown, a creator of something called Canada Land, who talked about how the CBC presenter on the evening news called a rally against anti-Semitism, a rally of Jewish people and supporters after the October 7th massacres.

The presenter called that a pro-war rally.

Which was insane.
