We're up against so much.

And how Ca- how CBC and, and TVO and other public broadcasters in, in, in the world and in Canada find their place, their role, is crucial because there are so many forces working against having an independent voice and having people know about their own communities.

And I, I warn people about this all the time when I'm traveling, that you, you say, "Okay, you know, I, I don't care about mainstream media.

You guys are making it up all the time.

When I first received a, a call to be on this panel, I was quite nervous because fear is something that has shaped my whole life.

The first panelist you'll hear is Nam Kiwanuka, an award-winning Ugandan Canadian journalist, host, and producer with TVO.

So I will say that I think that's something that's carried on from Idi Amin to present.

When you are born in Uganda and living under all those different wars that happened in such a short period of time and witnessing, uh, what Idi Amin began, it just lives in your body, that fear.

Our guests were Nam Kiwanuka from TVO, Nakanike Muesi from the University of Toronto, and Derek Peterson from the University of Michigan.

The reason I learned this is because when I went to Fan Expo and the very much lacking in Star Trek stuff, except for two things.

There was a documentary from TVO, which I'll talk about in a second.

And then there was a panel by one of the associate producers, Jennifer Hoffler.

And she talked about behind the scenes.

It was really quite... enlightening but the the panel that i the the documentary earlier is by tvo which is tv ontario which is sort of like pbs but in canada it's our free like educational place we saw at polka dot door and i don't know if these are things that are international i don't think polka dot door is you know it's like today's how about today's special mr dress up you know all those people um um mr rogers

Mr. Rogers actually he got a lot of his ideas like he not ideas but he worked up here for a bit to work on his children's show before bringing it down to the States so you know we have a lot of things to thank Canada for including Star Trek Day earlier anyway TVO has this documentary called For the Love of Star Trek it premiered on Monday on TVO and then they put it online for free for everyone to see So it has archival interviews from Nichelle Nichols, Walter Koenig, a lot of the original Star Trek.

They talk about the whole NASA thing with Nichelle Nichols, which is always lovely.
