Back 2 Devy Episode 213: Early Freshman Impact

All right, guys, let's talk about the wide receiver room here.

We're gonna start off with the infamous Year 1-0.

The main tool here for...

Ho- honestly, I, I heavily subscribe to it.

It's a dud tracker, not a stud tracker.

So pretty much anybody that passes Year 1-0s, they get the check mark going into phase two.

Anyone that doesn't pass Year 1-0, you can just forget about being a Devi asset.

Typically, each draft class will have one Year 1-0 to be relevant.

So, for example, Javon Baker a few years ago was a Year 1-0 that made it, that became relevant.

Omar Cooper from last year's class, first-time wide receiver, was a Year 1-0.

Um, there's always one each, like, NFL draft class where a Year 1-0 squeaks through for debates.

But for the purpose of this show, let's go over what the thresholds are.

You need to cross one of eight thresholds to be considered beating the Year 1-0.

I do believe back in the day that if you had four or more, that was a positive sign.

Slight positive, but a positive sign nonetheless.

Mm-hmm.

For receptions, you needed 10 receptions, receiving yards, 100 receiving yards, five rushing attempts, 15 rushing yards, one rushing touchdown.

That's not receiving touchdown, that is a rushing touchdown.

10 total touches, 115 scrimmage yards, and five kick returns.

For example, Mekhi Lemon only passed it on kick returns, actually, his true freshman year, so he was a one of eight.

Yeah, which we might be hoping for for another USC freshman wide receiver that we might-

Yeah.

[laughs]

... hear of shortly.

Right.
