So do they think he is an accurate downfield passer? I think is like a question for Ryan day or like the inaccuracies that we saw throwing downfield against USC is, did you see those in practice or like, do you think that's something that you would have maybe attribute to like first game jitters and he can work through those because if he can, then I think maybe you can talk about big jump.

I think there were things that were promising, right? Like it, cause, cause some of the completions he was, he did make, we're not just like young guy pitch and catch easy read kind of throws, right? Like there was some of that baked into the game plan certainly, but like, Some of the balls he completed over the middle, late to Chris Henry Jr., earlier to Phillip Bell.

I thought those were pretty good quarterback plays.

And then he got to be a part of it.

And you know who else thought that? Chris Henry Jr.

and all these other wide receivers.

We can keep doing this.

But long-term...

Cause what's going to be their starting trio next year.

Like they're, they're, they're top, they're top of the room is some combination of Chris Henry Jr. Brock boy, Devin McEwen, Phillip Bell.

Well, yeah, up on Jeremiah Smith.

And I mean, we had we have that in Chris Henry Jr.

The issue is that I think Chris Henry Jr. is not doing himself any favors.

He's had a couple of bad drops that you don't want to see.

the thing is like getting other guys involved you know when i first started saying that people like well do you want to take you know the catches away from jeremiah smith and my thing is i think it honestly frees up space for jeremiah smith

Yes, and I remember, I think we were talking about it before the Texas game.

My whole hope for that first quarter, first half of the Texas game was Texas is going to put so much effort into stopping Jeremiah Smith, go let Devin McEwen – fucking Brock Boyd, Chris Henry Jr., whoever it was, go let someone eat for a half.

But the goal line situation that we're going to get to, and then the first drive out of the third quarter, which this was second down.

So on both second and third down, usc leaves jeremiah smith single covered like this like the yes that's safety sort of hanging out but his eyes are clearly in the backfield i likewise don't think this is an rpo i mean if i was gonna ask ryan day a question i'd be like this is not an rpo right um because also you're gonna see chris henry's just going to stalk to crack block um and they and again on third down they just ran it without an rpo attached and again so you see the difference from the first play right so like the now austin cereveld has to block that backside defensive end uh you need to insert the water the wide receivers have to get in condensed to pick up you know the overhangs because usc's got now eight guys in the box and so they do an okay job of that but you still have like that strong safety coming downhill and you just have jeremiah smith so like they they just they can't let this happen um you know it's it's like they have to give him either I mean, I would just tell him, like, if you see that, like, pull it and throw it.

You know, the upside is too great.

But if they're not going to do that, then that, like, all the more goes back to my original point with the first play.

But the best, the most charitable thing I can say about this is I talked about, you know, that they needed to involve Fahey more in the run game, particularly the goal line, like to, you know, that gets you your numbers.

My thought is maybe they hoped in this situation, like they, they are, you know, they, to your point, they're not in 14 personnel.

Like they got Chris Henry and Jeremiah Smith out there.

Right.

And that is without a doubt, easier said than done because it's, They've got stud receivers across the board.

Chris Henry Jr. is going to be their next big superstar receiver, it feels like.

They've got a talented running game.

Their quarterback injury certainly changes the game here.

I mean, McEwen doesn't get enough scratch to me.

Chris Henry Jr. doesn't get enough scratch to me.

I feel like it's very run, play action Jeremiah Smith.

And a lot of defenses know that.

He had multiple big drops in this game.

Chris Henry, others, like, obviously, Jeremiah Smith.

was going to get bracketed, was going to get doubled.

He had 10 catches for 83 yards, similar line to what Legree had for Oregon State, which is interesting in some ways.

Um, they're trying to develop the freshmen.

Maybe that could happen faster with Chris Henry Jr.

But I think the rest of them, Billy Fesler at quarterback, Tyler Bowen on the offensive line, which was an iffy hire to begin with, um, Carlos Lachlan at running back, Keenan Bailey with the tight ends, I think are all very reasonable questions about are they doing their jobs well enough? Are their players developing well enough? Uh, should they continue to be Ohio State assistant coaches, right? I think that this, this offensive coaching staff, when you look at the individual rooms and the development in those individual rooms, there are very reasonable questions to ask.
