Macklin Celebrini just signed a massive extension, and the NHL contract market may never be the same. This week, Ryan and Jackson break down Celebrini's five-year, $18.8 million AAV extension and…
Um, all right, let's, let's get right into it.
But, uh, yeah, I mean, Celebrini, it was a deal that we kinda said either it was gonna be the seven or eight years at the max or whatever, the seven or-
Apparently this was the low end
I...
Again, people are mad 'cause they're like, "He said he would take less and everything." It's like he did take less.
Like, I don't-- people really don't understand, like-
I'm gonna turn my light on so people don't get mad at me.
Yeah, you're good.
Keep talking.
Well, like, people, people really don't understand, like, this new contract era.
Like, they really, really don't.
Like, so he still has one more year of his entry-level deal, so this doesn't kick in till next season, and by the time it's next season, oh my God, it is just mayhem.
Yeah, it's mayhem over here right now.
It's mayhem, dude.
[laughs]
Let me tell you, this has been my weekend.
Yeah.
Um, but yeah, when, when his deal kicks in, like the max is, I'm pretty sure the max is like 20.8 million, and I think if it's, like, if you compare to Sidney, like, Crosby and McDavid, it's a similar percentage.
And again, they're like, "Oh, he said he would take less, and he didn't." It's like he did.
Like, when Crosby, again, I said, I've said this a million times.
When Crosby signed his first deal out of his entry level, it was 8.7 out of 10.
McDavid signed 12 million, and I think the max was, you know, 14 or 15.
Like, these players are more than deserving of the max amount a player is allowed to get, and any amount less that he can take, they do, right? So no player at that caliber is ever gonna sign more than five to six years at this rate anymore.
Like, I think, so starting September, that's when it kicks in for like seven years, the max.
And I think the next CBA or whatever it is, I think they're gonna try and get it down to six years.
Um, all right, let's, let's get right into it.
