Buffalo

And I guess maybe it started in childhood, having experiences in the synagogue.

I grew up in Western New York in Buffalo.

And my childhood cantors at the time, I didn't realize how special this was.

But my childhood cantors were Mark Horowitz and Barbara Ostfeld.

And that was a big part of synagogue life for me in my early childhood.

folk songs for children, for encouraging participation among families and young people.

And when we moved to the Reconstructionist Temple in Buffalo in the 90s, my cantor was Susan Whaley of Blessed Memory, who was also the first female cantor ordained in the Jewish Renewal Movement in the United States.

So I guess I would say that I had a really fortunate upbringing, musically speaking, Jewishly musically speaking, in which I almost had to sort of unlearn some things when I got to graduate school about women's participation in musical leadership and also what Jewish music is supposed to sound like, these discourses and narratives of authenticity and innovation that are sort of central debates still in Jewish music studies.

There are so many ways people show up in a community, as learners and doers, as leaders and participants, and sometimes as observers from afar.

Some bring deep Jewish knowledge, others bring curiosity, professional expertise or generosity.

A flourishing community does not require us all to show up the same way, in fact, it needs us not to.

The strength of a community comes from bringing different people and perspectives, the wisdom each of us carries, and our many ways of being Jewish into relationship with one another.

That is, in many ways, the work of the Buffalo Jewish Federation to see each individual and take responsibility for the whole.

The annual campaign for Jewish Buffalo is how Federation puts those responsibilities into action.

Ravens-Bills...

Tomorrow afternoon in Buffalo, new Highmark Stadium, this is the game that's probably going to be most discussed on Sunday.

In terms of picking it, it doesn't seem like it's going to go well for the Baltimore Ravens.

There are concerns surrounding Lamar Jackson as he returns.

There were some who felt the way he was limping a week ago and limited.

Are we sure he's 100%? Are you rushing him back because the team is one over 500 and in a really difficult division and you need him to have a shot at beating the Buffalo Bills? Josh Allen versus Lamar Jackson's kind of grown into a little bit of a rivalry.

Lamar Jackson met with the media and...

This wasn't the most assuring answer when asked how well he's going to move, but let's just hear what Lamar had to say.

But it's kind of an easy passage, I would say, even though it does take a little bit of time.

And it's a very busy border.
