Yoo people, hope you’ve had a good week 💙 in this weeks episode we discuss insecurity vs observations, how we should handle conversations with people who are insecure and how male friendships deal…
What's that? I was kind of like, do Catholics believe...
So I think the question was, can a Catholic be born again?
So
do they believe
Oh wait, no, they do believe that he rose on the third day and that though, right? So what are the
fundamental differences between Catholics
and
Christians? That's the wrong person by it.
What would be interesting though is how does purgatory play the part in... like, salvation.
Yeah, but what does that look like for hell then?
Yeah, but then, the reason why the only, for my, hey guys, I'm not an
expert,
but just to say, like, the only reason why I feel like they can use purgatory and be like oh like we have a similar belief in like let's say like um protestant um sort of faiths or denominations here is that for example there's a place called abraham's bosom shiel yeah where people who died in the old testament all that kind of stuff like Some argue the good ones were kept in Abraham's bosom, which is a part of Sheol, which is the afterlife, which is like hell and all that kind of stuff.
But they
argue, yeah.
No, no, no, but Shio is like Hades, basically.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
There is definitely...
Because the thing is as well with Shio, you've got Abraham's bosom, yeah? And you've got someone asking.
So, for example, the rich man that went to hell and asked him to just get a drop of water and just drop it on his mouth sort of thing, innit? Drop it on his...
Because that's how... peak it was, yeah, he was speaking to people in Abraham's bosom.
He was speaking to Lazarus in Abraham's bosom, right? Yeah.
Is it Lazarus? I might be paraphrasing.
The
reason I say the thing about shills, because the Bible uses shill to describe, like, the grave as well.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
So, if you're in the grave, they say, like, they use that as shill as well.
there's two different parts so there's two different parts of Sheol basically or Hades right which is I think Hades is a part and Abraham's bosom is another part because Abraham's bosom is specifically called out and that's people that have died already
and also people say it's Greek mythology as well
yeah but again a lot of these things like do you notice there's some there's a lady that does um videos where she talks about all the things that were happening at the same time as things were happening in the bible and it's quite interesting it's quite good to see that um so she talks about stuff like the revolution or this is that and the other or whatever's going on in the different faiths and all that kind of stuff so she talks about that even the odyssey stuff she talks about what was going on in the bibles around the same time as the odyssey and all that kind of stuff um yeah sorry where was that um sure so yeah she was like the place where almost like you were held before the final judgment where everyone comes from the grave as well remember when we talk about the seals being broken and all that kind of stuff and everyone even those that were under the sea and they all get right and everyone gets judged at the same time like right now people believe those people are kept in shale but then there was also another belief that When Jesus took the keys, when he died and went to Hades and took the keys and led captivity captive, Yeah, essentially people say that saying that he freed the people, the souls that were in Sheol, Abraham's cousin.
So they're already in that eternal peace and eternal heaven and that eternity basically, right? Some people believe that.
I'm not 100% sure on exactly what I believe because I feel like that verse doesn't give me everything that some people believe.
But then again, who am I really in it? Do you know what I mean? So I'm still working that one out in terms of what I believe in.
And that's all eschatology.
And that's, eschatology is one of them.
It's one of them.
And eschatology is the whole, sorry, it's the study of what happens after life.
Do you get what I'm trying to say? So it's like the whole, what end times, all that kind of stuff.
Do you get what I'm trying to say? Where people go after they die and all that kind of stuff.
Eschatology is one of the most biggest like,
no,
I don't know if I'll call it the biggest, but it's one of the big topics, basically, in theology.
Yeah, man.
It's judgment.
Yeah.
Yeah, exactly.
But then also, sorry, so just getting back to the point, like, so yeah, we know it's got a dark past.
How do you even get there?
But yeah, so the only reason why they can never kind of claim any sort of similarities because of shiothim.
That's the only thing.
Because the only thing I see in Bible that kind of relates to any kind of holding place is shiothim and Abraham's bosom.
Do you get it? And again, still, I don't think it's what they're doing there can then...
Nah, bro.
If anything, you're just waiting to get your final judgment.
It's not that.
I don't think you can change anything while you're there.
But I don't know.
No,
Bro, I cannot remember, bro.
You know where the Catholic schools are now? I know, bro.
You know where
Catholic schools are now,
bro? I'll never forget.
I'll never forget my teacher when gone.
You said that twice, bro.
You know where Catholic schools are now? You did, didn't
you? Yeah, but that's another thing, though.
I wouldn't send my children to something that's not...
In schools, yeah, but that's another conversation, yeah.
You wouldn't send your children to something that's not Catholic?
Yeah, I wouldn't still.
Why?
I'll get, I'll answer that.
But this time, yeah, I'll never forget my teacher.
So again, you've got to remember, when we were in school, I always used to say this, like, because it was black, Ghanaian, Jamaican, majority, everyone had some kind of faith background, even though no one was really practicing.
So, but we were aware of certain things at a young age.
I'll never forget it
yet.
During
Hail Mary, I was like, bro, and we had spoken about it before, but gently, And then I'll never forget, yeah, that we were like, he was like, why
That kind of thing.
Bro, she lost it.
She was like, you're not praying today.
Bro, she lost it.
I'll never forget.
I'll never forget that day.
And then I was like, right, like, oh, you know.
So what was that explanation that you're praying
I
can't remember.
We just started laughing.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
We're losing it now.
It was actually
so funny.
We're like, why are you losing it? It's so funny.
And even the youth is laughing as well.
And it's funny because He can't get in trouble for this.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Do you get me? All he said here is like a view.
Remember in RE, you got to learn.
You learn about different things, different faiths.
So even in college, I done an extra course in first year.
And it was philosophy.
So I'd done philosophy as well for a year, but it wasn't a...
It wasn't an actual A-level course.
So I'd done the four A-levels, and then they give it to some people.
Yeah, you got spent for it or something.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
To
do philosophy.
So I'd done it as well.
So even in there, you're learning about... topics and things and different but you it majors on christianity
but for your philosophy as well i feel like it majors on um greek um dogma in terms of like plato or that kind of stuff because i feel like he was quite quite instrumental in terms of like how people see themselves in terms of philosophy i
think it was christian philosophy i can't remember the name of the course was it philosophy and ethics Maybe.
Fair enough.
And by the way, you went to
a Catholic school.
I think they majored on Christian philosophy.
It's so funny because the teacher as well, yeah, would used to be like, listen, guys, you guys amaze me every lesson.
People are ashamed.
Bro, do you know what it is?
Do you know what's so funny? You know when a man talks about philosophy, that's exactly what man expects.
I expect every conversation to be mad interesting.
Even if someone says the most basic thing, somehow it's so profound.
Yeah.
Guys, it
made me...
It was
funny.
But it's funny.
That's what I'm saying.
He's a Christian.
He was Catholic.
He was Catholic.
He was Catholic.
You have
to be kind of a Christian to teach in a Catholic school, right?
You know, he used to be stripped off back in the days.
But I don't think now...
So now you can have someone in a hijab teaching in a Christian
school.
That one, I don't know.
That one, I don't know.
I don't know how, like, blatant it has to be but I don't think they would stop you you know if you're not of Christian faith I just think their thing is that you have to yeah oh well sorry to teach RE no I think you have to be Catholic
no but to teach you have to be Christian
Oh, is it? Yeah, I don't think you can teach RE in a Catholic school and not be of
faith.
But ain't RE, like, you're not trying to,
like...
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
It's religious.
It's a religious
study.
But, you know, so a lot of the time, Catholic schools, because of the Catholic Church, they own the grounds that the school's built on.
So because of that, they dictate
what the curriculum
is rather than the government
or whatever.
So for a lot of them, yeah.
So I don't think you'll be able to teach art at RE.
But if you've got
like a form in a Catholic school, right, you lot have whatever things that you guys recite in the mornings or whatever, right?
So you say, so not in the mornings, but there's assemblies.
Yeah, assembly, yeah.
Yeah.
We used to do mass, I think, every week or something like that.
So that's
another thing.
That's what I'm saying.
Yeah.
You say the what?
Hail
The
The
I can't even lie to you.
I remember at school, because
I was in primary school, I used to like, obviously, the world.
You know, there was a time...
What is the Hail
Was your
whole primary school that? Second school.
Oh, your second school.
I was only year six.
Yeah.
Now, the reason why Catholicism has similarities to, for example, people are going to think I've jumped here, but to the Yoruba religion, is the whole Mother of God kind of... idea and when we talk about like um the fries and all of these other religions that existed back in the day and all that kind of stuff again they all had a mother concept i remember when we talked about um the addictive milan and um constantine and how even though he's seen as like a massive savior especially in catholicism because he stopped the persecution of christians what also happened was that the neighboring religions, cultures merged with different parts of what was supposed to be Christianity at the time, or let's say Catholicism.
There's also a lot that if you look into it, when you look at like Roman Catholicism, if you look at the symbolism, like the sun, for example, a lot of it equates or has similarities with sun worship.
There's just so many questionable things for me personally, like even the upside down cross, talking about Peter being... crucified upside down and how he like god said um because christ said um on this rock this is this is the rock on this rock i'll build my church and the gates of hades won't prevail over it people use that as a oh he's talking about peter because pete means rock or whatever people so that's why like because he started the first church That's why, essentially, that's why they have the upside down cross as one of their symbols, because Peter was crucified upside down.
My thing with that, yeah, is that that's not looking to Jesus, and that's not what man believes in.
I don't believe in looking to Peter.
I don't believe in looking to any of these other people.
for anything other than examples, but not in any way, I don't need a mediator to get to Christ, innit? That's a key thing in what I believe.
I think there was a key break off here in terms of Catholicism and even orthodox and um protestant which was like the five solas and the main one i always call it solo scriptura where it's like now we go back to the scripture and the scripture is the authority in the church but in catholicism they believe that no the vicar the pope the priest they're the authority in the church so they believe the pope the priests have the authority to forgive your sins I don't believe that.
That to me is very different to what I believe.
They actually say that, that they can forgive.
So there's a term called vicar de filius, right? Which basically means that the vicar is the extension of Christ on earth.
So that's why they have the authority to...
Confessions and stuff like that.
The Pope, sorry, is the extension of Christ on earth.
So that's why he has the authority to forgive your sins, essentially.
Is that why they do confessions?
Yeah, exactly, yeah.
But
again, I
don't
think
confessions are...
It's
to the vicar, though, isn't it? Again,
guys, let me just say one thing, yeah.
I've only
been there, like, probably, like, a handful of times for, like, christening here and there and that.
So I'm not an expert on
why they believe or do what they do.
All I know is the differences in what...
They told me they believe in what I don't believe personally.
Do you get
it? I think, by the way, I think the confessions, like, obviously, take away some people's fundamental belief of why it needs to happen, by the way.
Because, obviously, from what I remember, you don't have to do confession.
That one is optional to go to confessions.
But remember, when we were younger, they did say, right, even in primary school, go to
confessions and it's like a box.
So you go
inside, this is how it was back then.
Obviously, this was more old school.
So you go inside a box and like, the priest on the other side, you're in the room, but it's like, he's not even like looking at you, kind of like, you're kind of like, you're talking to him.
Let's say he's facing you, he might be looking here and the thing in between you, it's not like a clear screen or nothing like that.
So it's kind of, so basically- We've seen it in movies
and shows.
Yeah, it's meant to
do the thing of like,
You can't see me.
Confidentiality.
Confidentiality in it, so you can't say it.
But then there's always that thing where they can just open
it and start chatting to you.
You know what I'm saying?
No, no, I'm not putting it down.
I'm not looking up.
Forgive me, Father, because I have sinned.
That's what you say when you walk in there, right?
I can't remember, you know.
I can't remember.
When I see it in the film, that's what I see.
Yeah.
I don't think I did, you know.
I think you just go in there.
He'll ask you, like, is there anything you want to say? You'll say it, and then...
there's obviously a, as it is with Catholicism, they're starting to, they read back to you and that, all right.
And then it's pretty quick.
Obviously, it might have been quick for me because I was younger.
I didn't have much to say.
Yeah, probably.
They told you to go.
Remember
what you
said? I can't remember.
I think I'll punch someone up.
I don't know.
I'll punch someone up.
How many times did you go just because it
was like, oh, like,
It was like, let's go kind of thing.
Yeah, yeah.
So obviously, remember, I've gone through the sacraments.
I've done my confirmation.
So you go, you do it in it.
I don't
want my children doing
that.
You know what it is as well? And this is an obvious side, yeah? By the way, the way we
do life here, the way we do life is like, Nah, all of that is kind of calm, if you get what I'm trying to say, because we'll get through it.
Do you get what I'm trying to say? So I'm taking that gene away from things.
Because I don't know that the people growing up nowadays have the gene of getting through things.
I feel like a lot of people growing up nowadays, once they're in something or something's got a foothold or a stronghold on them, it's going to be an absolute tussle to get out of it, bro.
Because one thing I was thinking about the other day, I was watching something, and I was like, you know, I think sometimes, though, I think as Pentecostals, I don't think we give Mary enough credit.
Go on.
Kind of like, like even in the, even not, because even in the like, even in the nativity, it's kind of like, the way it's been, it's kind of like she's, she's a character in it, but she's not like.
No, they are, they are, but I don't think, like it's not given, So, for example, I would argue, yeah, that the three wise men are bigger characters in the way we talk about the nativity than Mary in the Pentecostal church.
Do you know what it is? I think that's just how we remember the nativity.
I don't think that's about how we speak about it.
the Pentecostal church, I think we juxtapose against Zachariah, John's dad, and how he received the message from the angel versus how she received it.
How she received it in all humility on some call.
Are you saying that's the way? So for example, yeah, and I know what the response is going to be.
for what? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
For what reason? No, it's the gifts.
So I've heard people holding on the gifts and like what it is, for example, I've heard it in sermons about what it is to give.
I've heard it in examples of like the importance of those things and what they actually mean spiritually in terms of like crowning the king.
Do you get what I'm trying to say? I've heard it in that context.
And that's the thing, I'm not even saying that it's bad, by the way.
I think that we...
Because I think we, so the way we, and fair enough, again, the way we talk about Paul, obviously he wrote a lot of the letters that we read.
So fair enough, innit? The way we talk about Peter, he started the first church.
So fair enough.
no, no, no, no. Fam.
It's not, bro.
And I feel that.
Do you know
what it is? But, you know what it is as well, though? And I feel like, And you might not be doing this, but I feel like sometimes we approach stuff with such a fear of like, maybe I'm going too much to that side.
But I think there's an acknowledgement to make that, oh, hold on.
There was somebody on this earth that was brought up.
We don't believe in stories.
Do
you get me? We actually believe these are historical things that happened for real life.
And if we believe that it's a historical thing, we believe that an angel came to someone and said... you are going to be the conduit
for
the saviour of the world
yeah
you are going to give birth to the saviour of the entire universe bro it's actually it's insane so even how
many times have you seen the word universe
in the
Exactly.
To be fair though, let me think.
Universe, did it say the...
No,
it says heavens, it
says earth,
it
says world.
Yeah, yeah, but it's what it's referring to though, isn't it?
Yeah, no.
It's what it's referring to.
It's
everything in existence, but my thing is, my thing is, and by the way, I'm not getting into this for a second, that universe is a concept that transcends... like, biblical framing on the world and structure and all that kind of stuff.
What do you mean, like, there's an understanding of it that means elsewhere? The whole, like,
multi-planetary beings from an outside galaxy, all that kind of stuff.
Again, I'm not getting into it.
Yeah,
yeah, yeah.
So, apart from that, Justin, the creator of the world, yeah, has been, that is there, bro.
Do you get what I'm trying to say? And, that's the conduit for which you come from.
So that doesn't necessarily equate to, that doesn't equate to worship, by the way.
Because what I'm saying is that the wise men, there's no worship there.
equates to some form of worship.
I think prayer is different.
Yeah.
Prayer is different.
I'm struggling to reconcile, I'm struggling to have the conversation without the context of what we're saying is that Pentecostals do it one way and then in Catholicism it's another way.
Like, that's where my head is
at.
Do you get me? And I guess I'll say it like this.
I don't think Pentecostals do it wrong.
Do you get me? I just think...
They don't put enough value in terms
of...
There's no real, like, acknowledgement.
Not even reverence.
I wouldn't say the word reverence.
Because you wouldn't use reverence for Paul.
You don't show Paul reverence like that.
Do
you get me? Whoa! Showing respect, innit? Yeah, there's respect.
But again, honour? Do you honour
the dead?
i think you can know i think you can honor yeah yeah i think you can i think you can i think you're not you're not praying to them we're not praying
to talk specifically about
There.
Oh, like your father Jacob.
There, bro.
But it's honour.
No, but it's honour.
They'll look back and say that, but dude, like, look how faithful your father, look how faithful Sutton was.
Do you get me? That's honour.
It's honour still.
You're honouring them.
Look how faithful they were.
You are not like
them.
I don't know if I would definitely class that as honour, but I get what you're saying though.
In terms of like, for me, honour is like, Again, we've spoken about this before, innit? But it's like, how you kind of...
I don't know.
I think honest for the living, basically, innit? But again, don't hold me on that.
Let me read into it.
I might come back and say something different.
Do you get what I'm trying to say?
But in the most, like, touch way, like, very much, I think, yeah.
So, basically, my point is that with Mary, and again, it's something for people to think about, like, there is...
There's something there in terms of like, oh, okay, this is a...
And I think it's even different from Joseph, by the way, because Joseph was more so like, it's funny, isn't it? Not funny, but it's like...
You're the stepfather, the father that stepped up.
You're the stepfather that stepped up, bro.
You're just kind of there, you helped, kind of vibe, isn't it? Obviously, he's the father.
Whereas
an actual
conduit for...
Let's put it like this, though.
I'm so interested.
I don't think that would be true.
I think if you went to like bare, if you went to bare Pentecostal churches now, you told them to name five women in the Bible.
I think, I think, they're going to say that Ruth, Hannah.
They're
going to say, they're not going to say Hannah though, but they're going to say Ruth.
We will say Hannah.
We will say Hannah because we grew up understanding
that story of Hannah and Samuel was a peak thing in our
church.
Do you get what I'm saying? In terms of that kind of faith and pushing past that negative oppression or whatever it is.
So it was big for us.
And again, that then takes us into another world of the types of sermons and things that are... emphasized in pentecostal churches why because of where they're based low cost um or low low income neighborhoods all that kind of stuff and how we interact with faith in comparison to how yeah yeah um interactive faith and i'm going to say but i don't want to get into that place that like yeah and or i don't know if we're going to touch that but one thing i will say is in terms of like the mary stuff i think yeah Before you say that, who else do
you think you will mention?
So Ruth.
I think they'll say Ruth Esther.
Esther.
Fact.
I think they'll say Ruth Esther.
I'd say Deborah.
But people wouldn't say Deborah.
No, they won't say Deborah.
I'd say Deborah.
No, no, no.
The judge.
Yeah, obviously, but no one would really say Deborah.
Yeah, no one would say Deborah.
Yeah, because it's because she's got a surname.
Do you get it? Do you know what it is? Think about it.
When you was going back...
Basically, I don't think she's top three.
Remember when you was going up in Enz, yeah? If someone...
If they...
Like, you know someone, not by their graph, but by their full name.
Yeah, yeah.
They'll be like, oh, like, Trevor...
What's so funny? Trevor Ince.
Who laughed at me the other day? Trevor
Ince.
Did you get what I was going to say there? He laughed at me the other day that every time I talk about people from my second year of school, I say their full names.
No, Cass is such a
waste, man.
You know how Cass lived in an area whereby it was, like, it was very racist? Yeah.
So, bro, like, obviously, certain times I'm going to check him.
I'm actually shook.
There was a time we were walking here.
He was like, oh, crap.
I can't remember.
He said one full name.
And one family laughing.
Oh, family, what are we going to do? Let's go.
I'm
joking.
Bro, you lot don't even remember.
There's a time you lot come to my bit here.
And...
Obviously Cas was there, yeah, and there was a car scurrying around, innit? And those times, I'm not saying it was on tops, but it was just, it was a funny time, innit? So even though initially I wasn't sure, but when I clocked out, it wasn't anything yet, I still acted like it was something.
And then Cas started, like, he was gonna start ducking as well, innit? And then I was laughing at him, yeah.
And he's like, fam, look, no, it's these lot.
Like, these lot don't know what's going on.
You know how he is? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
These lot just walking in.
That's how these lot would have got grabbed.
Too funny, bro.
I said to you.
But what am I saying? Yeah, because
you got a second name.
Yeah, yeah.
Like, she's got a second name.
So I think because of that, it makes her a known character.
Like, outside of that, and then, oh, like, where is Jesus? And it's, oh, I'll be my father's son.
Obviously, initially, where Angel Gabriel comes and gives her the message in terms of, like, right, like, you bear a child and be the saviour of man and all that kind of stuff.
But because of that, that also plays a massive part as well, doesn't it? But how we get taught Christianity in Sunday school...
Fam, do you think you can go to someone in Sunday school now and say, name five women in the Bible that gets told by Ruth and Esther? And that's our heritage.
That's our heritage.
Do you get what I'm saying? So I think she plays a prominent part from that perspective.
Yeah,
yeah, yeah.
But I think, yeah, because kids are taught stories and they're taught easy-to-learn stories, they're Christmas stories when it's easiest to kind of understand, especially because it's taught en masse everywhere.
But I think the adult church...
But I think in the Bible, the Bible is very clear about emphasising certain parts of stories, isn't it? So the fact that it emphasises the conversation between Mary and the angel, right? Angel Gabriel, I believe it was, yeah.
And then also does the same thing with Zechariah, John's dad, and shows the difference in terms of how they both responded to a thing and how one was sort of bro, they made him mute, innit? They closed his mouth, basically, because of how he responded on some, bro, like, he was on the vibe of, like, rah, like, how can I, like, guarantee what you're saying is true? Almost like the whole Judah Tamar thing was like, oh, let me take your cloak and all that kind of stuff.
But then Mary met him with, like, a different level of humility in terms of, like, she's here and she's willing and all that kind of stuff.
Anyway, so I think- To
be fair, Gideon moved crazy as well, though, like, he got blessed each time.
Yeah, fair enough.
Gideon said, listen, your angel, do this.
Like, if basically this is true, do this.
And it happened.
And then again, he does it again.
I still think the posture was a little
bit different.
Like, where, like, God's telling you to do something, and you're like, oh, no, I'm not lit like that, man.
Yeah,
yeah, yeah.
Like, but even then, we still, like, Gideon was, like, on some, I'm going to do it, like, But just like, I'm just kind of verifying you are who you say you are, innit? But Moses was on the vibe of, I'm not like...
I'm not actually, I'm not
this lit.
Let me get Aaron to do it.
Bro, we're actually going to do the thing about, like, maybe it's, like, abstract for, like, running our company.
We're going to think, like, oh, maybe not.
No, we're going to ask for confirmations, isn't it? Because it's massive, bro.
It's a massive thing.
Yeah, 100%.
So, I think I hear it.
And imagine on top of that now, they're like, imagine, like, what do you think you're not good at in life? What would you say is something that you're not good at? Being mean.
Yeah, you know them job interviews? Job interviews, I'm like, so what's your weak point? No, it's sometimes it's worked too hard.
I don't know what to put there.
He's like, I'm a perfectionist.
I'm a perfectionist.
What's something you're not good at? I should say something like maths.
Okay, cool, maths.
What's something you're not good
at? I'm trying to think, seriously.
What's something you're not good at?
I think I'm not good at yeah is
I'm generally a generalist innit so I
think I'm not good at is I get that mass planning sometimes like sometimes I'm very good at like I can get like I can get things done so I kind of know that if you give me a bit I can pattern it and it'll be fine so it means that I don't always plan as well in advance as I should Do you get me?
Something I'm not good at topic-wise is, you know that study of stones? What's it like? Geo...
Geology.
Geology, sorry.
Yeah.
It's like Ignatius rocks.
I'm not good at that.
Yeah, you bought it.
But anyway, yeah.
So imagine, yeah.
So imagine they told you that you bought it.
But imagine, yeah, that they were like, now, all right, go to 10.
Go Cambridge, professor of geology.
Yeah.
Go Oxford, professor of maths.
Go and do it.
That's your thing.
But you feel like you can't even speak properly, bro, because you've got a
stutter.
So my thing, whereas Gideon's one, yeah, was like...
I feel like Gideon's one was more so like, you're buying it because...
I can't remember from reading it.
Because again, we read these things.
Yeah, yeah.
Speech impediment, is
that something? Was it
definitely a speech impediment or was he saying that his mouth is foul? Do you get what I'm trying to say? Let me get the verse.
Was it, was it that he says he's like slow to whatever, whatever it is.
Yeah.
Or was saying that he was going to use him.
And he was saying, nah, but I've done X, Y, Z in the past.
Like, my mouth is not clean.
Nah, do you know what it is?
So, Exodus 4.10. Yeah.
Yeah.
Guys, why are you taking long to load? Exodus 4.10.
So, what he actually says, where I've got you, if I'm smart, because I've got the,
Bro.
Blue letter.
But anyway, Exodus 4.10.
So he...
I've lost it.
Sorry.
Basically, though, what he says is that I'm slow of speech.
And...
He said I'm slow of speech and slow of tongue.
Okay.
Do you know what I mean? So there was an impediment with what he was saying.
There was a reason why he was like, listen, I am...
I am shook here.
So, essentially, yeah, I don't, bro, I get it.
Do you know what I mean? So, yeah.
Yeah, fair enough.
I don't know, but I feel like when I read it, like, it was...
Yeah, so I'm trying to quickly look, so.
Yeah.
But yeah, so, like, yeah, I hear it, man.
Like, when I look at these biblical characters sometimes, I'm just like, bro, like, I actually hear what you're saying.
I actually hear what you're saying, so I get why you'll be shook to go out and speak.
I get why you'll be shook to do certain things.
Yeah, man.
But yeah.
Yeah,
no, but yeah,
for
sure.
That's just my, let me
know what you're thinking.
Go back there.
But how do you even get onto that? Because I spoke about, I started talking about Mary and reverence.
And then we spoke about, yeah, what other ways.
Oh yeah, exactly, yeah.
So he was saying, yeah, so he's got a stutter, he's got a speech impediment, essentially.
Do you know what it is as well? It's like, with moses remember it's not that he said that once it was like he was finding excuses not to be the one that was chosen or used and then to the extent that he was like oh and i'll bring someone else into it so god's original design was moses to be the mouthpiece that almost like represents god and aaron to be the moses essentially in terms of the servant and the prophet and all that kind of stuff to get but because of how moses responded and reacted to it that changed yeah
But you're shook,
don't you?
No, I hear it.
But this is my thing, innit? My thing is, like, listen, we give ourselves a lot of, like, grace.
Like, how can, like, saying that you're shook, literally talking about fear, like, the Bible, fear is the opposite of faith.
Do you get what I'm trying to say? So, like, actually, if we're talking about a proper holy God and all that kind of stuff here, that believes in everything, like, everything he says is bond.
Like, word is bond, bro.
So, it's like...
Actually, fear is direct opposition to man.
Do you get what I'm
trying
to say? Do you get what I'm trying to say, bro? I have to
tread carefully.
I have to tread lightly.
But you get what I'm trying to say, though.
As in, it's a lot more graver than what we talk about.
Do you know what I mean? Because mercy exists, and grace abounds you, to be fair, through Christ, obviously, grace is under the equation.
But Because mercy exists, I feel like sometimes we can say the whole, oh, no, it's calm, like, because of X, Y, Z, and boom, boom, boom.
But what I'm trying to say is that it's not actually calm, but mercy exists, grace abounds.
Do you get what I'm trying to say? And I think that's more of how we need to think about these things.
So when we talk about obedience and that kind of stuff, and we're not obedient, yeah, it's not that it's calm to not be obedient, because it's not.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Mercy exists, grace abounds.
Do you get what I'm trying to say? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
So anyway, but yeah, the reason why I was saying that was just because of how it talks about the different, it emphasises certain parts of the story, like for certain reasons, in my opinion, and the part of Mary's story that emphasises her humility in receiving the message from Christ.
And to be fair, now that we've spoken about people like Moses, we've spoken about people like Gideon, you can see that she's probably received that message better than any of these lot.
And the gravity of the message she's receiving, the one that they've been waiting for for years on years.
And one could even argue that not only the gravity of the message, but what she's kind of done kind of outweighs what everyone's done still.
Because imagine, at that point, I'm sure, yeah, and I need to look at this properly, but the Saviour's been prophesied that there is somebody coming.
So this thing is not like you're going to be unaware, like, You are being told there is somebody coming who will save, who will trample on the neck of the snake.
Like, we know this.
And then you're the one who you're saying is going to come through at that point.
It's actually crazy.
Because it's not a random thing, man.
That's not the first time she would have heard of.
Yeah.
I don't even know whether at that point she would have realised that this is what I'm actually going to do.
Like, fuck.
That's my defense.
My only question on this shit is like, if not Mary, would it not have been someone else?
People can look at everything like that, though.
Exactly.
I think we look at everything like that.
But that's what I'm trying to say.
So is that not included in everything? It is.
But you know what it is? You can raise these stones.
Of course, of course.
To praise him, bro.
Of course.
But we look at it.
I mean that with all due respect.
I would agree with you if that's how we've done it with every single person in the Bible.
If we didn't give certain people like...
Like who? Or as in, if we don't talk about, like, with reverence.
Yeah, yeah.
In my
opinion, innit?
Yeah, yeah.
Agreed, yeah.
Agreed.
Like, if we didn't give other people as much, like, let's just say, honour, yeah, or reverence or whatever, then I'll say what you're saying is true.
But we do it for some for a reason.
Because they heard the call and they accepted it and they responded to it.
You get me? And we give them...
And other people probably got the call and didn't, and that's why they're not in the Bible.
So my thing is...
That is...
What do they call it? Exegesis or exegesis.
hey that is heresy brother I don't know I don't know who got caught outside the Bible yeah so
please but yeah so my thing yeah I agree but if yeah if we done that with everyone I'd be like yeah fair enough man but we don't Bro, we talk about certain men as giants of the faith, bro.
We talk about certain men.
Start talking about Elijah.
What? When they mention Elijah, when we talk about David, when we talk about certain men, it's like we talk about it with power.
Because at the end of the day, look at these men, bro.
Well, they were the shepherd boy.
Do you get me? You're a shepherd, dude.
There's probably like...
You're a shepherd, dude.
You're a shepherd, dude, bro.
Think about it.
There's probably...
Instead of being a shepherd, dude, there's probably bear shepherds, dude.
Do you know what I'm saying? There was probably a bear shepherd used there, but it was him.
But yeah, man, it's an interesting story.
Do you know what it is? I was just
checking.
So Exodus 6.12, 6.30, it talks about how having uncircumcised lips, and
I
think that's the bit I was getting.
Sorry, where it talks about Moses having uncircumcised lips is one of his reasons why he didn't want to do it.
And it was almost like he's unqualified because... of his kind of past.
So that was one of the other reasons, one of the other pushbacks, basically.
So I think that's where I was getting that from.
But yeah, man, I think part of the reason why we even got into this topic, by the way, and even went into Catholicism and went into all of this stuff is because I was talking about, or we was talking about the video that you lot saw where someone was like, right, every time we talk about slavery and that, why are we
talking
about Jesus and Christianity and that? Do you get it? Like, where was Buddha during slavery? Where was Allah, during slavery, where
was...
The universe.
Where was the universe? Because everyone talks about the universe.
Where was the
great architect?
And why is there suffering? That one is dark.
That one
is dark.
And if you start asking, I feel like, listen, if you start asking those questions, they get real uncomfortable.
So, for example, everyone that believes in, let's say, it's the universe, it's the flow of things.
Like, why has the universe allowed this? So, we need to all ask the same questions.
Why has the universe allowed it? And if your answer has anything to do with your universe tried, but we, then that's it then.
Don't ask any more questions to anyone else.
Do you get me? If that's your answer, that, oh, the universe tries, but we, that's it.
That's it for everything.
What's our answer? Why? In terms of why they're suffering.
No, no, no.
What was the question? I'll answer to you.
So, where was...
He was there still.
He was with them.
Not a lot of people have that.
Like, we have a God who knows what it's like to suffer completely, to be ridiculed, to be mocked, to be looked at as like a lower person, to be spat at, for piss to be thrown at, for vinegar to...
Like, it is insane.
So, when we suffer, and it's a tough conversation, because this is not the answer I'll give to someone who came up to me and said, I've lost someone.
This, by the way, so let's be...
This is just to answer this question, but...
So when we're suffering, we have a God who suffers next to us, who's with us in the suffering.
Do you remember that old thing, footprints? That old picture that used to be people's house?
Oh,
yeah, yeah, yeah.
And basically the story, do you remember it?
No, no.
So basically the story is...
Footprints in the
sand.
Yeah, the story is that someone is walking, yeah? And...
What was it? Okay, please quote me if I remember.
Sorry, someone is walking and they walk on the beach every morning.
Shoot, let's just get up.
Let's actually just get up still.
Want me to read it? Yeah, read it, yeah.
So it says, One night I dreamed I was walking along the beach with the Lord.
Many scenes from my life flashed across the sky.
In each scene, I noticed footprints in the sand.
Sometimes there were two sets of footprints.
Other times there were one set of footprints.
This bothered me because I noticed that during the low periods of my life, when I was suffering from anguish, sorrow or defeat, I could see only one set of footprints.
So I said to the Lord, You promised me, Lord, that if I followed you, you would walk with me always.
But I have noticed that during the most trying periods of my life, there have only been one set of footprints in the sand.
Why, when I needed you most, you have not been there for me? The Lord replied, the times when you have seen only one set of footprints is when I carried you.
So
Do you get me? He's with them.
And it's sad.
Do you get me? And people are being raised up to speak up against it.
And this is why...
And I think...
Times like that, this is kind of changing it, yeah.
Because I remember, I think I said on the pod, one time I just think I said, God, that...
What role do I really have? Because you know, even how you said that, if I don't speak, God will raise up stones.
What's my problem? Why should I try and act and all that? I'm sure that will be all right.
It's over with.
What did you get? There's a thing whereby people don't realise that your actions in this world have a real impact regardless.
Because
there's a...
There's a kind of understanding that, oh, no, we actually have to do something here because it makes an impact.
Do you get me? So, dude, just going back to the slavery point, it's that, like, people are being raised up to speak up against.
I also think there's a fundamental misunderstanding in terms of what salvation is.
I think someone saving you from something is almost always physical when we think about it.
Do you get what I'm saying? If someone saves me from anything, it's either financial, physical, I don't know, emotional, again.
But it's still very much here and now, do you get what I'm trying to say? Rather than existential, you know what I mean? Do the philosophy thing.
Do the philosophy thing there.
But do you know what I mean? As in that, it's not a thing where it's like, no, actually, I'm here to save you for eternity.
Like, this life is like a vapor.
Like, do you get what I'm saying? As in, it's here one minute, it's gone the next.
Do you get what I'm saying? But actually what matters is eternity.
And actually, what I'm trying to do is get you right for eternity, essentially.
He will come and save you.
But that's the thing.
Yeah, a warrior.
A warrior, that kind of prophet, essentially, where he was actually leading them into battle and saving them that way.
Do you get what I'm saying? Almost like the Elijahs and all that kind of stuff.
Do you get where it's like the God that answers by fire and all that kind of stuff? And I think that's a misconception, a misunderstanding, and that's why some people refute in those faiths they refute christ yeah um but yeah anyway i think joy is this all let's be real some of these topics is something to and i'm saying this so bluntly and candidly it's something to read up on yeah understand what our exact thoughts are on it and then talk about it because yeah when we talk about like this off memory and stuff that we read time ago again, even look at how I was talking about the whole speech impediment stuff.
