Could you start by talking about why you, as you call it, a Brooklyn memoir, why you decided to write this memoir?

It's a memoir of lost worlds, as I talk about, and I sort of wanted them to do my part to put several things back into context.

The first one is of course from the title that the Ellis Island Jews is very literal.

It's all the Jewish people, the immigrants that came in through Ellis Island for that 40 year period that ended in 1924.



And I therefore I have this tragic comic memoir of my working class Brooklyn Jewish family.
