Afikoman

So I would go to Passover's at their house.

PhD probably never wanted to pay for the Afikoman retrieval.

Um, now that you mention it, probably not.

Oh, I celebrated Passover at Spago when I was a kid.

The other half he sets aside.

It is called the Afikomen.

Later, he will hide it somewhere in the house for the kids to find.

The hunt for the Afikomen was always hotly contested.

There was even a reward, a quarter.

It went up to a dollar after the revolt of 87.

Afikomen means dessert, and supposedly this was devised to keep the kids interested.

but why anyone would get excited about the idea of more matzah for dessert is beyond me.

Even in our Seder, we say Zefer, is that why we say it on the Afikoman and not the meat? Yes,

always wonder why it's on the Afikoman, not the shank bone.

Yes, and on the shank bone, when we say Pesach, Matzah, and Maror, and we look at the Seder plate, we only, we hold the Matzah, and we hold the Maror, but we only look at the Pesach, we only look at the Zeruah, and Hamavadi says you shouldn't even point.

Definitely don't pick it up, and don't even point.

End maftirim, right? In the Haggadah we say, uh, uh, Afikoman has to be the last thing in a seudah, right? After Afikoman, you don't eat anything.

Why? 'Cause you need to have the taste of the matzah.

Haftara means the end.

And then at the end of the dinner... you know, the children would go search for it.

And this is called the Afikoman piece.

And the child who finds it gets a surprise, like a surprise or a prize of some sort.

And so the bread comes back, and then everybody divides it up, and it's eaten at the Passover meal.

Rose from the dead.

And shared with everybody.

And so like with that, like the Afikoman and that tradition, people were like, that's absolutely the gospel.

And so if you've ever celebrated a Seder dinner, that's pretty cool.
