Now, one of the things that we're gonna reference in this podcast is the spirit of religion.

Now, when I say religion, I don't mean the positive expression that James mentions in James 1:27, "Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father is this, that we would visit orphans and widows in their distress and keep oneself unstained by the world." I don't mean that when I say religion.

Many people think religion is equivalent to the law in the Old Testament, and that's not wrong, but the first instance of religion in the Bible is not on Mount Sinai.

God told Adam to not eat the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge, and then when Adam communicates this to Eve, he tells her, "Don't touch the fruit of that tree." See, the first opportunity that man had to share the word of God with another person, he added to God's word in an attempt to satisfy God's command.
