236. Hyles Church Manual Examined - Part 3 - Bus Kids: Reaching People or Reaching Numbers?

Welcome back to the For Freedom Podcast.

We are continuing to walk through the Howes Church Manual.

Today we're getting into a chapter and something that's become almost synonymous with what the Howes ministry and really the generation of Independent Fundamental Baptist Ministries.

As a young person, as a kid, my church had a bus ministry.

I'll share a little bit of the story before we jump into it.

My mom and dad ran a bus route with John's mom and dad.

My dad was the bus director.

He helped with Chuck, John's dad.

And I was born on Thursday, Brett.

And I kid you not, I have a picture and a video of this.

My mom's got it somewhere.

I've seen it.

I'll have to find it for her and put it out.

I was born on a Thursday, and that next Sunday, December 10th of 1988, I was in my car seat on the bus picking up bus kids to come to church on a Sunday morning.

My mom was driving the bus.

She had just gave birth to me three days before that.

And she's up there driving the bus away, picking up kids.

My dad's leading the bus as the bus captain.

So I have been a part of the bus ministry literally since I was born.

Our church burned down.

They sold all the buses.

And I think I was 16.

And so it was about 10 years the church went by.

They gave up the bus ministry.

They sold everything.
