Fall! Autumn! Fall! Autumn!

So we have, we got a email from Lisa in New Jersey.

Oh, hi, Lisa.

Kathy, you wanna read it?

I'm not sure if you've covered this.

We hadn't.

But it is something I've been wondering about.

Why do we say leaves turn colors rather than change colors?

Hmm.

Which I actually thought was an interesting question.

I'd never thought about it.

I never did either, and we learned something from this.

[laughs]

Which we should've known, I guess.

Yeah.

[laughs]

But leaves turn colors in autumn when trees undergo a natural biological process.

Things change colors when an external force or something intentionally alters their appearance.

Oh.

So therefore, in fall, we say they're turning instead of changing.

However, I want to throw something out here.

What if, like, if you're, let's say, really religious and you go, "Well, you know, God said this to..." I mean, in a way.

[laughs]

But not quite.

I, uh, this is getting really technical here.

[laughs]
