We look at the broadcast calls that served as the soundtrack for Joe Carter's legendary home run that won the 1993 World Series. Music: Last Stand - Purple Planet Music
Lucas MitzelHostThe only other man to hit a walk-off home run to win a World Series was Bill Mazeroski, which, by the way, I toured Rogers Center the day before this ceremony, and the tour guide said only one other person has hit a walk-off home run in the World Series.
Can you tell me who it is? And naturally, I just want to raise my hand and said Bill Mazeroski.
And I'm pretty sure most of the time people taking that tour do not know who Bill Mazeroski is.

I mean, just given, too, that that is 66 years in the rearview mirror now at this point, and you and I are students of the history of baseball, and I don't know necessarily for folks that are touring Rogers Center how many of them might also be students to the degree that you and I are.
So we have four calls of this Joe Carter World Series home run in 1993 to analyze.
And him being on the radio, you obviously have to be a little more descriptive.
He was the Blue Jays big power hitter that year, would not be World Series MVP in 93.
He talks about how he's trying to lay off the ball low to the outside part of the play just when after one.
I remember in a 1993 episode, I speculated without evidence, and this is probably just a hypothesis on my part, that maybe he was swinging away at that bad pitch on purpose to set up something more hittable.
Do you think there's any possibility to that? I think I kind of asked you that in our 93 episode, but...

I get the feeling of like, you know, he had gone 2-0 and Mitch Williams, while all this is going on, and I think we covered this in our 93 episode.

And if we didn't, then we have a little bit more here is Mitch Williams is having to do a little bit of stuff with a slide step, which was something that he had started once before.

And of the 23,719 people in Major League history, Ricky Henderson is probably number one on the do not do that to that guy list.

And so the slide step is kind of there to convince him not to go taking off for second base as he was wont to do throughout his career.
