Faith Talks: Take the Step

I guess to introduce it, here's a question.

If someone told you that you were going to walk into a mosque, a Muslim place of worship, and you were going to sit down with their top teacher and give them the gospel, would you be scared? I'd be scared.

Would you be scared?

We were all pretty scared.

Right.

But that's what our teens did, which is actually amazing if you think about it.

Walked into a Muslim place of worship and gave the gospel.

I mean, to me, even as an adult, that sounds impossible.

And the teens were scared.

A couple of them were telling me they were very scared because they didn't know what to say.

So we looked at Joshua yesterday when I preached, and God told Joshua to lead the people across the Jordan River.

And I actually didn't get to mention this in my message, but in Joshua 3, verse 15, there's this little parenthesis.

It says, "...the Jordan overfloweth all his banks all the time of harvest." So I actually don't know how wide the Jordan River was typically, but if you think about it, there was probably 2 to 3 million people, and they had to get across a river, which getting any amount of kids across the river, kids or adults, is hard.

I mean, think about our teens.

Trying to get our teens across a river, any river, that would be a task.

They're getting 3 million people across this river.

And this verse tells us that the river was overflowing its banks.

It just seems to say that God knew this was going to be absolutely impossible.

He didn't choose the easiest time.

Like, there's been a drought.

Okay, the river's down.

Let's choose this time to do the miracle to get the people across.

It's like the worst time.

The next chapter, after they crossed the river, it says, chapter 4, verse 18, the waters of Jordan returned unto their place and flowed over all his banks as they did before.

So God says it twice because I think he wants us to know, like you're saying, this is maybe the worst time to cross the river humanly, but God was the one who had to do the miracle.
