Hindu temple

Close to 1,400 people are confirmed dead in the disaster and almost 5,000 are still missing, including 36 Australians.

Melbourne's Tibetan diaspora have held a candlelight march while Hindu temple Mukti Gupteshwar Mandir in the southwestern Sydney suburb of Minto has held special prayers for those impacted by the catastrophic floods in Nepal.

Rajendra Govindra recently completed a trip to Mount Kailash on the Tibetan side of the border and says the immigration center where he stood and admired the mountainous landscape is now destroyed.

He tells SBS he has struggled to come to terms with the tragedy with members of the temple still unaccounted for.

It's been kind of a lifelong journey for me.

I was born into the only Hindu temple in Tehran, Iran, or in all of Iran, really.

Okay.

So I grew up with a lot like immersed in spiritual content.

So by the time they reached, it was late in the evening after all the celebrations was over.

But they reached Mandir and they sent word to one of the devotees there saying that, "Can you please tell Swami that so and so, uh, has come from Brindavan campus? We couldn't come in time for Swami's darshan.

If Swami is still outside his room, we would like to come and just take Swami's namaskar." So this person goes up and immediately comes down saying that, "Yes, Swami is sitting on the veranda.

You can come.

All of them spoke about Swami and, and, um, then like the cherry on top of the whole cake, Vedanarayanan Sir, who was to teach us Sanskrit, he came and he said this morning Swami told him, because he used to stand in front of the Poorna Chandra Hall-

... as Swami would come back from the Mandir.

Swami said, "My 10th class boys are all keeping maunam." On his own, Swami has told that, "My boys are keeping maunam.

So he just ran like a leopard.

Somehow, he entered the Mandir entrance.

And in fact, the people there, they were frantically searching for him.

In fact, there were four sevadals who were put on their duty to find out where I am, he says.

Because Swami has mentioned that, "See, if Sainath comes, you ask him to speak and you announce his name." And the person who was supposed to announce, he did not know what to do because he's not able to see Sainath sir enter the Mandir.

Vedam is stopped now.

He has to stand up in the podium and announce his name, but he does not know whether that is really going to happen because he cannot see Sainath.

When finally the Vedam was ending and Sainath sir stepped into the Mandir, that was such a big relief for the sir who was just standing to announce the name of the speaker.

And they came down the mountain.

That evening, they went to Mandir to have Bhagawan's darshan.

And as they reached the Mandir, Diana's mother told Diana to go to the right and to the front of the temple.

And she said, "Take off your shoes." So Joel took off his shoes and walked towards the Mandir.

And when they went to the darshan grounds, they saw that there are so many people sitting in absolute silence, some of them sitting like yogis.

And there were men on one side and there were women 50 feet away.
