Item number one, Stephen Curry signed a two-year, $116 million extension over the weekend with the Golden State Warriors, $20 million south of what he could have gotten total, so about 10 million per year.
Could be very important in the Warriors potentially, potentially opening up max cap space, depending on a whole bunch of things, like does Jimmy Butler wanna be on the team a year from now? Do they want him? Is Draymond Green gonna be on the Warriors? Would he take the room exception so that they can really maximize the room? Is Brandon Podziemski coming back? I would bet on him coming back on an extension.
What about Kristaps Porzingis with a $20 million player option next season that is sneakily only $3 million guaranteed? The Warriors could have max cap room.
They could use their cap flexibility to make a lopsided trade where they take in more salary and use the picks they have.
I, I frankly think that seems to be the more likely outcome, particularly considering Nikola Jokic's comments today, which we will get to.
Um, but the Steph extension plus the Porzingis news today, which is that Kri- Kristaps Porzingis will miss an indefinite period of time with a health issue, and that's all we really know right now, um, it's an interesting sort of double piece of news, uh, for the Warriors.
As a basketball issue, Mo, it is just the latest blow to a Warriors team that I was already low on to the point that when I did one big question for every Western Conference team with Rob Mahoney last week, my question was, is there a magical 60-game Porzingis season left in his career? And if so, is it this one? Because that's the only way I could see the Warriors with Butler out for a while, aging roster, it's m- Moses Moody out, et cetera, et cetera.
Um, that's the only way I could see them really treading water in a serious way, and now that may be off the table.
