The Prospect Promotion Incentive
Aug 7, 2026 · 1 hr 10 min · 18 segments
In this episode, Beck and Scully break down all of the major prospects dealt at this year's trade deadline. Players discussed: Gage Ziehl, RHP, BOS Kayson Cunningham, SS, ARI Jhomnardo Reyes, OF…
Scully, which national holiday did you choose and who's your prospect comp?
Uh, I went up to the northeast, uh, for IPA Day, uh, which is my preferred IPA.
I don't really like them as a blanket beverage.
But a hazy IPA usually has my attention.
Uh, and those are more common as a New England style IPA.
So I poked around there in some minor league rosters, saw who was putting up good stats.
Uh, took me to Gage Ziel, right-handed pitching prospect for the Red Sox.
Not a hot prospect name necessarily, um, but he's having a pretty good year.
It's command really that's the name of his game.
Um, he's gonna throw five slightly below or average pitches at you.
The best of which being a changeup and a cutter.
Um, and the slider's pretty good.
The fastball's nothing special.
But, um, like I said, command is the name of his game.
Uh, at AA this year for the Red Sox, he's been 81 innings to a 4.33 ERA.
Um, and he is not walking anybody.
Uh, striking out 27% of batters and only walking 5%.
So, um, pretty good, uh, 22% K minus BB differential.
The stuff again isn't special, uh, but he will throw a bunch of pitches at you when he locates them well.
I believe he was promoted to AAA recently.
Um, that might have been...
He hasn't made a start there, I know that, but I'm pretty sure I had seen that.
Um, and that's why his name kind of got on my radar.
And so found the opportunity to shout out Gage Ziel, and I wanted to do so.
I like the call.
