Indivisible’s Leah Greenberg reminds us that the powers that be want us to just give up. That they have done everything they can to disrupt the process of voting. To scare or discourage people out of…
Thank you for coming, because there's so much to talk about this month leading up to the election, and last time I had you on the show, you said that the worst people in the world had got together to give themselves everything at our expense, and it was up to us to work together to get it back.
You said that your original Indivisible guide was a short-term defensive strategy for a long-term goal, to hold the line for democracy until '26, so we could still fight to, to restore our democracy in '28.
And now we're here in 2026, right before the midterms, and we know that all of these terrible people have done absolutely epic damage to our democracy, to our world order, to our rule of law, to our constitutional rights, and we've also just been robbed blind as a nation-
... by this group of corrupt individuals working so hard to take everything for themselves.
So where do you, or maybe more specifically, where does Indivisible see us at this moment in history?
Well, thank you for starting with that, like, little bit of a historical recap because I do think it's incredibly important to just identify both the devastation that's been wrought, but also how far we as a movement have come over the last year and a half.
Because we were starting at a pretty rough place in 2025, right? Like, large segments of American society were kind of folding in and giving way to Trump and MAGA.
Regular people were standing up and saying, "Hell no." We pushed Elon Musk out of the White House.
We pushed back across the board over the last year and a half, and we've been driving down his political capital and his standing to the point where we held open the conditions for a free and fair election with all the caveats that we should have about any time an election is free and fair in America, and that's a really big deal.
So, like, the first step of this was just stopping the authoritarian free fall that our American society was in over the course of a lot of 2025, holding off some of that authoritarian consolidation, and holding open the conditions where we could contest this election in the first place.
And so we're in a moment where we are poised to make extraordinary and crucial gains across the board in this election.
And now it is our job to hold those two mandates, right? To continue to protect the conditions in which we can have a democracy, and to also fight the political fight, make the argument for how we can actually improve people's lives if given the chance.
In the introduction, I was saying that we should expect a lot of shenanigans from this president and his party around this election, but I feel like shenanigans isn't really the word [laughs] I wanna use.
The word I wanna use is sabotage, but I also don't want to discourage people from voting.
I don't want them to feel like the villains of the story have all of the power, because they don't.
But realistically, our president has attacked our election system in every way possible.
