I'm gonna set it up a little bit, nothing that you couldn't find in your study Bible, but we probably may challenge some of the things in your study Bible here in just a minute, but that's okay.

But we're gonna open up, what is this book of the Bible all about? Well, it's called Acts because it's the Acts of the Apostles.

The Apostles are the continued authority of Christ through his leaders, through his church, by the Holy Spirit.

continuing the work of gospel expansion.

Jesus came pronouncing that the kingdom of God was here, and Acts is about the expansion of the kingdom of God through the local church.

That's what it's about.

Now, when you read this book, one thing that's kind of interesting about it, it's not addressed to a wide audience.

It's addressed to one dude.

It's addressed to one man, one guy named Theophilus.

You read that in Acts 1.1. You read that in Luke 1.3. Luke actually, who is the author of the gospel, Luke also wrote Acts.

Luke is a physician.

He's a doctor.

He was a traveling companion of Paul.

We learn about all reading Acts.

We hear this phrase, we went here, we went there.

So whoever's writing Acts was with Paul.

So he did an investigation of who Jesus was, wrote a biography of Jesus.

That's what we call the gospel of Luke that dealt with all Jesus taught.

He actually deals with Jesus' younger years a little bit as well.

And then he writes about the continuation of the ministry of Jesus Christ through the apostles and through the local church.

And so Luke calls him, in Luke 1, 3, and also in Acts 23, 24, and 26, Luke calls him Most Excellent Theophilus.

Has anybody ever heard of him called Most Excellent? Man, that is like a bucket list item for me.

I want my kids just to be like, Most Excellent Father.

And I mean, it's not that improbable because most excellent is kind of like, it sounds like a little bit of a surf term, you know what I mean? Hey, most excellent dude, you know what I mean? Yeah, it's a little, it's a little surfy, okay? And we're at the beach and my prayer is just one day I'm down at the beach and someone's just like, hey, most excellent dude.
