Jonah

And he brought him unto Jesus.

And Jesus looked upon him and said, Thou art Simon, son of Jonah, thou shalt be called Cephas.

And on the next day Jesus desired to go forth to Galilee.

And he found Philip, and said unto him, Follow me.

For if he renounceth not all that he hath, he cannot be a disciple to me.

Then answered certain of the scribes and Pharisees, that they might tempt him, and said, Teacher, we desire to see a sign from thee.

He answered and said, This evil and adulterous generation seeketh a sign; and it shall not be given a sign, except the sign of Jonah the prophet.

And as Jonah was a sign to the inhabitants of Nineveh, so shall the Son of man also be to this generation.

This is what they prophesied.

For example, 2 Kings 14 talks about some of the things Jonah prophesies, although it doesn't give the exact details.

dialogue of what he says but it talks about the things that he does prophesy about and so there are examples of that sure but in in relationship to that we don't excuse saying well just because something's not scripture doesn't mean that it's not god's word so i just want to clarify that we'll come back to that point at different times so one one important aspect to understand how people interpreted what God said is actually God's covenants.

And what I'm talking about there is actually the biblical covenants.

Well, no, I mean, I think of whales as homies, but I'm saying in a little bit like Jonah, you know, in that movie, Jonah, he were in the belly of a whale.

All of a sudden I'm attentive.

Jonah walks through Nineveh and goes 40 days more and you will be destroyed.

And all of a sudden we're listening.

When I hear prosperity and peace and everything's going well, why listen? So first, get yourself in trouble.

And he came out in a recent sermon called The Gates of Hell and said openly that after Jesus endured the cross at Calvary and he shed his blood and died for the sins of the world, that when he went to hell, Because the Bible says that he went to the center of the earth for three days and three nights.

Just as Jesus said, as Jonah was in the belly of the whale, so also will the Son of Man be at the center of the earth for three days and three nights.

This man stood on his pulpit and he said that Jesus, the Spirit of the living God, was molested and raped and tortured by demons.

Jesus is down there being molested.

Today, inshallah, rather tonight, will be visiting the story of Yunus alayhi salam, or in English, Jonah, peace be upon him.

And that is, subhanAllah, though it is a short story in the Qur'an and also in the Sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ, meaning that we don't have a huge amount of details, but it is very meaningful and it's very powerful.

And it's a story that is worth reflection because, subhanAllah, you can get so much out of it and you'll see, inshaAllah, that that story, though it happened so many years ago, can still impact you today.
