Galatians | Marked by the Cross - How to Knockout "Works Righteousness" Believing - Pastor Matt Baker - 5-31-26

We need to take shots at the works righteousness mentality, and the works righteousness mentality just means I'm always drifting back into a spiritual state where I feel like I have to earn my relationship with God.

I have to my- earn my way into the family of God.

I have to somehow perform, and at the end of the day, hopefully there's a performance review with God, and it goes well, and I'm still in the family.

Y'all, that is a crazy way to approach God.

Can you imagine your kids having to approach you like that? Like, I'm all about them earning their allowance.

Don't just grace that allowance out, all right? You make them do chores, okay? [laughs] All right? But as far as status in your family, you're gonna make them earn that? "At the end of the day, Sam, we'll see.

We'll see you at 5 o'clock runs around." Yeah.

Or if you'll be sleeping outside or inside that.

You know, that's crazy, you guys.

That is absolute lunacy, but that's how we think about God.

We think of him not as a good father in a covenant relationship committed to us, we're committed to him.

We think of it as like he's, like, the great boss in the sky, and I'm just working to earn that promotion to the heavenly city.

Come on.

That's not it.

Come on.

That's paganism.

Yeah.

What we have in Christ is relationship with the Father through the Son, empowered by the Holy Spirit.

Amen. You get it by faith and by faith alone.

Your works, our works, they're important.

They're of value.

You're just not saved by them.

Your best day, and you've had some good days.

You think, "I've had some bad days." We're all like humble Christians here.

We're like, "I've had some bad days." You've had some good days.
