Magic Mike and Steve Hall catch up after returning from Bali and compare how travel affected their training, appetite, and body weight. They also share reflections on the trip itself, including heat…
We-- How have things been since you've got back? 'Cause you got back this time last week, no?
N-nearly.
So Friday morning is when I got back.
Which, to be honest, it worked out really well because it meant that I didn't have anything on Friday, so I kind of had Friday to kind of unpack and get organized, and then I had the weekend to get settled, which was ideal because I think sim- you know, it'd be interesting to hear what happened with yourself, but I definitely felt fatigued, you know, from the time I got back over the weekend, and I even came down with a, a little cold as well.
Like, I kind of felt like I had a scratchy throat on the plane, and I was taking zinc lozenges, but then I got really, like, bunged up and stuff like that kind of like Saturday, and now it's like I'm fine.
But, uh, yeah, definitely felt fatigued over the weekend, and I'm feeling kind of like, right, I'm kind of back to my normal self.
And I actually-- I didn't actually mention this in my check-in, but definitely kind of around the weekend, there was still, like my performance wasn't tip top, whereas like now my loads and my weights that I'm using in the gym are kind of back to where I would expect them to be.
So that's again, kind of reassuring a-and good to know.
I did notice in your spreadsheet, 'cause I was looking for it, 'cause I wanted to see what your performance was like, 'cause you didn't mention it.
And then I was like, I'm not actually sure if you've-- like where you've written it or what, like what you have or haven't written, 'cause I, I think I saw one session filled out, and I was like, "I think you've done more than one." So I was just like, "Ah," like if you didn't mention it, I'm sure it's fine.
But very similar to me where I was like my performance was not like it was down by more than like a rep or like a little bit of load.
I think I left getting like fifty for fifty-- well, they're fifty-twos, but in Yorkies they label as, them as fifty.
But anyway, my perform- I was-- I basically got the same reps with the fifties as with forty-five.
Mm.
So I was frustrated with that, and then I was nervous for coming in for legs, and then I just accepted it.
I was just like, "Hey, I know this week is gonna be a bit wi- like skewey because there's multiple reasons, right?" There's the jet lag from travel, the fatigue associated with travel.
There is the fact that at least for me, I had Bali belly, which we'll probably talk about-
Yeah
... which really knocks me, and I weighed, I think I was six pounds, six or so pounds lighter on that first weigh-in on return.
Uh, my weight thankfully has come quite steadily back up every day, which is good.
Good.
