The Game Deflators discuss Sea of Stars, Chrono Trigger, Ori and the Blind Forest, Sony's PS5 payment patent, Pokémon scalper backlash, Xbox layoffs, Microsoft ads, and review Life is Strange on PS4…
As far as what I'm currently playing, I completed Transistor.
Yeah, what did you think? It was pretty good overall.
Short game.
I think I beat it in four and a half hours.
Not super difficult.
I did.
So I noticed like halfway through or like three quarters of the way through that you can self-impose limitations in the game.
So there's like these things you pick up and it's like if you select it, it'll say, yeah, you can get an extra point for experience, but you take more damage or you cannot do X, Y, Z thing.
And so I was self-imposing limitations throughout the game.
I'm like, why is this game so damn hard? At some point, I just kept dying.
And then at some point, it eventually set after I died.
oh, well, do you want to play without these things? I was like, all right, I'll give it a shot.
Demolish the boss right away that I was playing against.
I'm like, okay.
But I didn't think about it.
I was like, oh, that's interesting.
Let me add back my stuff.
I wasn't reading it.
And so later in the game, I was...
Why is everything killing me all of a sudden? And it's because I had like all of these limitations in place, making the game so much harder.
But it was cool.
It kind of felt like a Romeo and Juliet type of, you know, story.
I guess, spoiler alert, because you've already played it, right? Yeah, so the overall premise is that you play as a character, I think it's named Red, right? Is the name of the character? And you have this group, the Comaretta, I think, right? And the process, which is like this AI that they've instilled into this futuristic world.
and in the process of like the comrade or like the process trying to kill you um with his big ass sword called the transistor it stabs into your lover who then his soul gets embedded into the sword itself and then you go through this world like not knowing what the hell's happening but you've you unlock kind of a better understanding of what's occurred and it's because the the process is essentially taken over uh this world and so you you make your way through to the comrade they've all killed themselves and then you make your way to kind of the final area where um you know battle the big boss and battle various process enemies um and at the very tail end uh the character ends up essentially stabbing herself with the sword or forcing the sword to stab her so that their souls can be intertwined within the transistor so pretty cool story overall i definitely uh enjoyed it it It was short, but it was, I think for the type of gameplay that it is, that short experience and story was good enough for me.
If that game was, say, 20 or 30 hours, I probably would have been like, man, this is such a slog to get through.
