What happens when one of the world's leading experts in Ayurveda sits down with one of the leading voices in mitochondrial health? In this episode of The Energy Code, Dr. Mike Belkowski welcomes Dr…
[laughs] Of course, my whole thesis, or I guess obsession we could call it, is the mitochondria, which has been getting a lot more research behind it, a lot more interest, even in the public eye, or maybe that's just me, but it seems like the public's becoming a little more interested in mitochondrial wellness.
Well, there are, uh, uh, plenty of herbs in Ayurveda that are AMPK pre- precursors.
They, collagen precursors, mit- you know, ashwagandha's one of the classic ones, a, a massive boost for, you know, mitochondrial energy and ATP production and all that.
You know, Ayurveda has a branch of, uh, their system which is completely dedicated to longevity.
And what's interesting is that it's called rasayana, and rasa is the word for lymph, and ayana is, means the study of.
So the study of the lymphatic system for them was the study of longevity, which is really interesting because lymphatic system in America is something you get, you know, you find out when you get cancer, and that's really the only time you ever hear about it.
But literally buried in the medical journals you find out the lymphatic system is the most critically important system for health and longevity, 'cause it's trying to do three major things, all of which relate to the mitochondria.
Number two, deliver fatty acids as baseline energy to every cell of your body.
They're precursors to the hormones, right? If you don't have good lymphatic delivery of the fatty acids, you're not gonna make those estrogens, progesterones, testosterones, the cortisol.
We're gonna give you a hormone," without ever really asking the question, are you delivering the precursors, the fatty acids which those hormones are made of into your bloodstream? And the answer is most likely no.
So when you look at those three things, then it, it's everything to do with your mitochondrial health, your energy, your vitality, your ability to get the energy in and get the trash out.
It's something that we don't really talk about, but it is the, the, the critical system for...
You know, when you think about the pump of the lymphatic system is your diaphragm, right? So this is the, the diaphragm, which is the muscle for breathing, but literally in the medical journals it's clear, matter of fact it's in the, it's in, it's in the physiological textbooks, that the diaphragm is the number one pump of the body's lymphatic system.
And early on when COVID happened, when early CO- when long haul COVID was first discovered, there was a study came out showing that it was connected to congestion of the brain's lymphatic and glymphatic systems.
