this year I did a sequence for Shark Week out off the coast of California, where I'm going next week to Santa Barbara.

Ton of sharks out there, and I'm floating around in a kayak, and there's 16-plus foot great whites out there, and there have been reports of them hitting kayaks and knocking fishermen out.

They're not trying to eat the fishermen.

It was very recent.

Okay, Santa Barbara.

But yeah, it is, uh...

Yeah, but now everyone is just if you have any extra money for a vacation you're like, "Okay, let's find the cheapest Airbnb in Santa Barbara and never leave."

We've done that a couple time...

Don Sutton, of course, one of the Dodgers with the organization since 1965, started at Santa Barbara.

He's been quite a competitor.

There are three events on October 3rd.

The third annual Micro Expo, hosting the ARRL Santa Barbara section convention in Camarillo, California.

The Wichita Area Ham Fest hosting the ARRL Kansas Section Convention in Wichita, Kansas, and the Rock Hill Ham Fest hosting the ARRL South Carolina Section Convention in Rock Hill, South Carolina.

On October 9th and 10th, we have SparkCon 2026, hosting the ARRL Midwest Division Convention in Sedalia, Missouri.

There's eight islands off the coast of California.

The four northerly ones are kind of in a line just off of Santa Barbara here.

The southern four islands

are more widely scattered, but to just say that they're a group of islands is to completely misrepresent what they are.

Archaeologists know that these islands have been inhabited for thousands and thousands of years, perhaps longer than any place in North America.

With a human history like that, There are stories to tell, stories of who was there first, how they got there, stories of those who came later looking for adventure or gold or just to get far away, of one that got left behind and some just trying to get back home.

When I tell people that Santa Barbara and the Channel Islands used to be down by San Diego, they just think I'm crazy.

They say, what? So we're looking here at the four northern Channel Islands.

Um, and so it was a fantastic experience to work with him.

He was in Santa Barbara.

Um, so, and this was 2005 ish period.

His background in networking was just phenomenal.

The question also arises in the mind of the inquirers.

And then in Santa Barbara, I think, I went to their shop, Jay and Silent Bob's shop, where they had all their merchandise, and I got a signed Buddy Jesus for my brother.
