What happens when the people who teach you about love make that love conditional? In this episode of the cult.ture podcast, Derek sits down with Terry Wayne Carpenter, a former Jehovah’s Witness…
Yeah, I think that – well, there's a couple of things.
I definitely want to pull on a couple of threads.
So very quickly, totally understandable.
I think any person that buys a book like the one that you've created or even listens to a podcast like this, yeah, we have the disclaimer up front.
But there's an understanding if you're talking about control.
And you're talking about a story like this, like there's going to be some very mature themes.
I also think the other thing is, I think there's a growing community of X, whatever group, including Jehovah's Witnesses, where ironically it's gotten to a place now where there's more fiction starting to come out.
Yeah.
This is now a subculture and a culture into its own where we've now gotten to the place in the stream of reality where more and more of this stuff is going to come out, where eventually it'll just be like, oh, this is just another story.
This is just another part of the zeitgeist.
And I think it's like people like yourself that are.
putting yourself forward to do these types of stories, which I think is really great.
Uh, another one who, uh, we've already talked about in an episode, Sean Miller, um, he's creating a project project called Kintsugi.
Um, and it has all of it's an anime.
And so it's like people that are watching this anime, um, they'll see it and go like, Oh my gosh, I get that reference because of the way they were born, you know, what they went through.
So I think it's great to create, you know, fiction like that.
And I think it's really, it kind of captures this little market in addition to everyone else that I think is like, I've been hungry for stuff like this.
So I think it's great.
other thing I wanted to say was, I think the conversation about your daughter is, is like many things nuanced.
And there's so many different takes and vibes.
The reason I asked you about your daughter and your connection with your parents or her grandparents is I've just seen over and over again that maybe they come from a good place, but inevitably they're programming, they're wiring as cult members.
They can't not try to save your daughter.
You know what I mean? Like like they I don't think it's out of maliciousness, but it's like spiritual warfare.
