D. Smith, filmmaker, right? grammy winning producer a former love and hip-hop atlanta cast member took on instagram to let the world know he's transitioning back to living as a man after spending the last 12 years as a transgender woman and he wants everybody to know it's not a regret it's a personal growth um he posted saying for those who might need a refresher, Oh, sorry.

So, uh, his resumes, uh, worked with, uh, let's see, let's see before the world knew him as a trailblazing trans woman in entertainment.

Uh, Smith was already a heavy hitter behind the boards, co-writing and producing, uh, shoot me down on little Wayne's Carter three album.

Uh, the album, uh, scooped up the grammy's best rap album in 2019 over the years a catalog uh working with the likes of sierra katie perry celo green under 3000 monica uh fantasia and nipsey hustle and more now in 2024 excuse me 2014 uh smith came out as transgender a decision that uh report reportedly cost him uh dearly within the industry now i could imagine that will cost him uh in the industry especially if it's predominantly you know the hip-hop side right because it's like whoa whoa whoa it's just it's sad but folks i mean to just say let's let's kind of you know back off a little bit um Two years later, stepped into reality TV as the first openly trans woman on Love and Hip Hop Atlanta, bringing a conversation about trans identity straight into the middle of black entertainment culture.

Smith then pivoted into filmmaking, directing the raw and celebrated documentary Kokomo City, which told the stories of black trans sex workers and premiered to acclaim at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival.

Now, more than a decade after that announcement, that first announcement, Smith is telling fans he's ready for something new.

You know, again, when it comes to the transgender conversation, hey, look, folks, you have the right to do what you want with your body.

Now, I personally think, you know, when we're having the discussion about transgender, Transgender or transitioning At a young age I'm talking like teen Preteen age I think That's a bit too extreme Personally just because When you're at that age You really there's so much going on In your head right you don't know what Occupation you want to pursue You don't know As far as are you into I don't know What's your preference in a number of things Relationships Religion I feel like you're still forming You're still growing as a human being So when that decision comes It's a bit And I guess that's why I'm bringing This story here because You do have You've heard stories where Parents support their child In transitioning Which I mean hey They have the right to do that But Then it's And I guess I don't know because I'm no parent right I guess, you know, if I had to put myself in a parent's position, they're probably saying, hey, look, I just want to make sure my child is comfortable, safe, happy.

And we just want to, you know, respect their, you know, respect their boundaries, what they want to pursue.

But I mean, we rarely hear the conversations or stories about this where they're transitioning back to being a man.

And I would love to reach out and have the conversation on what went through your mind and say, okay, I think I'm ready to be back to be what I was born, back to being a dude.

So I'm very, very, very, very, very curious because the way the conversation goes in America is like, oh my goodness, this and that and the other.

And I guess I bring this conversation up because I had said this when it comes I believe that you should marry whoever you want to marry I believe everyone should have equal rights in this world everybody should be treated equally when it comes to transitioning your identity I personally feel as though that we should first have the conversation of why do you not like the the image that you were born and why are you not because me personally i feel as though like that's like a personal uh um you you're just like you're not what am i trying to say it's a um Like, low self-esteem.

Because now, you know, I feel as though that maybe if you talk with somebody and say, hey, look, you're beautifully and wonderfully made.

drinking out of a mug that says, uh, fear, fearfully and wonder, wonderfully, wonderfully made Psalms one 38 verse 14.
