Now there are certain things that are part of the game mechanics of Rogue that Roguelikes have to also have those things to be called a Roguelike.

So in Rogue, first of all, It's procedurally generated, so most people would just say it's randomly generated, but there are rules to the randomness.

But every, for example, the map on every level of Rogue is set up like a tic-tac-toe.

There's nine possible grids, so there could be a room in each one of those things.

So as you run out of things, you have to manage the number of things that you're getting.


And then finally, the most important thing to know about Rogue is that it features permadeath.
