NASCAR, Identity, MLB Drama & NFL Week 4 | Sports Out In The Open (3)

So let's start with NASCAR.

NASCAR, you might ask.

That's crazy.

We don't really get into NASCAR too much, but I just thought this was an interesting topic.

Everyone knows Kyle Busch and how he tragically passed away earlier this year in May.

And we're all grieving from that still.

But they're having a memorial for him on Friday.

If you want to look into his story, he basically got... really bad pneumonia, and then it turned into sepsis.

He was only 41 years old.

So we are praying and giving our well wishes to his family, but they're going to have a memorial for him on Friday to memorialize him, obviously.

And I just thought it was an interesting topic because you know, he was only 41 and he was a great kind of icon in the NASCAR world.

And, uh, this could lead us into, you know, talking about other things in NASCAR.

There hasn't really been many women in NASCAR at all.

Not that I know of many queer people in NASCAR or any of the other F1 or any of the other leagues.

And I just thought that was really interesting that we, you know, celebrate Kyle Busch right now in his life.

But we can't really, we don't really have any celebrations that we can talk about, you know, as far as women or queer people in NASCAR.

Why do you think that is?

Well, I was just thinking about that.

Like, I do think it's a matter of societal pressure, like coming from a trance point of view and someone who used to be closeted.

I always like to say in a group of people that say they're all straight.

There's a few that have a few secrets and that's fine.

You know, it's human nature, but I think it's like, even from a queer point of view, I think it's wrong to judge groups of people by the stereotype that they surround themselves in.

And that applies to me too.

So I really think it's important to look at NASCAR, appreciate the sport, love the things you love about it, and you can transition, you can be an identity, still love a sport, and understand that a stereotype doesn't make the individuals you might come in contact with when you enjoy the sport.

So I think that's just kind of a good lesson to take from this is we do celebrate sports as a whole.
