Special thanks to Rachel for joining us on this episode! 00:00:00 - Intro 00:01:15 - Benefactor or Bad Actor 00:10:10 - Non-Profit Social Media 00:24:04 - Buy You A Beer Buttons 00:34:07…
So for this week, I've written us a little warmup game that I'm going to call benefactor or bad actor.
Okay.
This is a game where I have found nine or 10 of the most ridiculous, all real charities or nonprofits.
And all you have to tell me is, is this a legit well-intentioned nonprofit or is this a scam that has been busted by like investigative reporting? Oh, I
love it.
So if I were to say, for example, Cops for Kids in Ohio, a children's charity, it raised like $4.2 million over a decade for like a bunch of teddy bears and stuff.
No, total scam.
1.75% went to the actual thing.
The rest of it was all put line in pockets.
So sometimes they're bizarre, legit, and sometimes they're not.
And we'll start as we always do with our guest, Rachel.
Let me tell you a little bit about Be a Deer and Donate a Brasier.
This is a San Jose women's club group that collected and donated 50,000 bras for homeless women.
Was that a real thing or was that a scam?
I'm going to say that that's real.
It was real.
Very
good.
What would you do with them otherwise? Like getting 50,000 bras.
What would you want
to do? With 50,000 bras.
Something inappropriate.
If you can sell gamer girl bath water.
I'm picturing a slingshot, but trebuchet.
Yeah, exactly.
