The first, the problem of self-salvation.
This sense of self-effort, salvation, religion through self-effort.
This is at its heart what the rich young man asked.
This is how this man is described.
When we look at Matthew, Mark, and Luke's accounts together, we see that this person that comes to Jesus was rich.
He was wealthy.
He had a lot of money.
We see that he was young.
He had this youth to him.
And then third, he was this ruler.
He had this authority and leadership.
And so for all intents and purposes, everything was going his way.
And you're gonna see why that kind of understanding caused problems for the disciples later on.
And so here's this man, for all intents and purposes, everything's going his way.
Not only is he rich, young, and a ruler, but he's this moral guy as well.
He's been keeping the commandments from his youth.
He's like the ideal candidate to be a disciple.
He's the man.
Look again at his question.
There in verse 16.
Here are the two problems with the question.
They're in the words good and do.
