Matthew 18.1 True Greatness; Temptations to Sin

Hi, and welcome to Scripture with the Church Fathers, where we are dedicated to the sacred scriptures as read through the eyes of the Church Fathers.

Welcome back to Scripture with the Church Fathers.

Again, we are always thankful that you have joined us in our walk through Sacred Scripture.

We continue with our gospel according to Matthew.

And we finished our last episode, finishing up chapter 17, and now we move to chapter 18.

And if you recall, when we first introduced the gospel according to Matthew, we noted that Matthew's gospel was arranged in five major discourses by Jesus Christ.

And what Matthew was doing—remember who Matthew was writing to— Matthew's writing to a Jewish audience, and he's arranging his gospel in such a way of these five discourses to mimic or to give an attachment to the Torah, which was, of course, written by Moses.

So the first five books of sacred scripture written by Moses, Jesus is now presented by Matthew as the new Moses.

So now, chapter 18 begins the fourth discourse of the gospel according to Matthew.
