EP 17: Michael McKenry on the Jerry Meals Call, Catcher Secrets & Pirates Stories

I'm going to tell you a story.

We were – and I'm really interested in how you react to this.

When this past season – last season we were in Kansas City.

Robbie and I went up and – Key Brian Hayes hits an RBI single.

And the TV camera comes right on us.

So it's us three.

We're all on the camera and everything.

And you sent Robbie this great text that we're on TV.

But the story is this, though.

We're talking to Charlie Hayes' dad.

And he is telling us a story about Joey Bart, who's catching that.

Oh, yeah, that's right.

This is a great question.

so and and he's and and when charlie hayes talks he don't he don't shut up he can go go go he loves to talk so he's a great guy he's a great guy though man does he love to talk i love charlie

get on the show i love you charlie get your ass on the show

yeah now he's not complaining about anybody he's just telling a story about joey bart he goes let me tell you something paul and i go what he goes that guy tips his pitches.

And I said, really? Because I think of pitchers tipping pitches all the time, but I never really think of a catcher.

I said, what is it? He goes, and I don't know if I'm saying this right, but he goes, he extends his leg on a breaking pitch.

He might have said something different, but that's the spirit of what he was saying.

He goes, this man extends his leg.

Any batter can look down and see what's coming.

And I thought, holy shit.

I never thought of that.

Is that common? Yeah, very, very common.

Tell us about that.
