René Rivera

Three-par trade.

San Diego Padres, Rene Rivera, Birch Smith to the Rays.

Washington Nationals sent Trevor Odd, Steven Sousa Jr. to the Rays.

The Rays sent Jose Castillo, Ryan Hannigan, Will Myers, Gerardo Parra to the San Diego Padres.

I've talked to, like, Chris Stewart, Chris Jimenez, Drew Butera.

There's Rene Rivera.

There's a list of these guys that go on and on and on and on, backup catchers.

Can you just tell us what life is like as a backup catcher and just how hard it is to stay in the big leagues, knowing that you might play once a week and you might go 0 for 4 and say, oh, shit, you know, am I going to get DFA'd? Am I going to get optioned? And just carving out the career you did, how do you put it all into words?
