From the polo grounds in New York, this afternoon the New York Mets close out their four-game series against the St. Louis Cardinals.

A real sunny, hot midsummer afternoon.

Hi, everybody.

He was derricked his last time out by the San Francisco Giants, but prior to that, turned in two complete games and two victories.

So today, Jay will be trying for his seventh victory of the year.

On the mound for the Cardinals will be Bob Gibson.

If there is any tension, they hit it pretty well.

Johnny Keene of the St. Louis Cardinals, the manager, he puts it very simply.

He says, we're ready.

We're happy to be here.

And at least we all know that we're going to go home after the game today.

So that's how excited Yogi was about it.

In the National League tonight at St. Louis, the Cardinals lead the Phillies two to one at the end of two and a half.

Dennis Bennett hurling for the Phillies, and Ray Washburn relieved Ernie Broglio in the first inning for the Cardinals.

Roy Sievers a homer in the second, nobody on.

Cincinnati and Milwaukee postponed rain.

Charlie Neal has it on a big hop and he plays to Ed Bouchet, and Norm Larker has grounded out second to first.

That will bring up Carl Warwick.

Warwick was obtained by the Houston Colt 45s from the St. Louis Cardinals in the deal that sent pitcher Bobby Shantz to St. Louis.

Mets are trying to win their first indoor baseball game.

St. Louis Cardinals also are winless, flying indoors to the Astrodome this year.

Bob Murphy pointed out the New York Mets still are trying to win their first game in the Astrodome.

They have been unsuccessful at this point, as the Astros have won all six games played between the two teams here previously.
