A definition I read this week says, "A mentor is someone who is a trusted advisor who guides and supports the person to grow." And I love that to grow, guides and supports a person to grow.

One of the lovely rich things we have here at Riverside Church is that system of mentoring one another, of passing the baton on, whether that is through our youth ministry, our children's ministry, our generations ministry, our vintage ministry, whatever it is across all of the generations, our connect groups, to keep on passing the baton on.

And I wonder, and this is not, you're not gonna have to share this with every- anyone, but I wonder who you would say at the moment is mentoring you.

Who is mentoring you at the moment? Who do you look to perhaps for example, wisdom, correction? I've got two, 'cause I think I need two people working on my life.

[laughs] But just to let you know that I have two people, Liz Bryson, who some of you will remember well, who I was with yesterday, which was fantastic, and also Jill Garrett.

And the lovely thing with Jill Garrett, who some of you might know, is that I then went on to mentor her daughter, Laura.

And, and I love that because we are looking at this intergenerational model that Paul is not only modeling with Titus, but is encouraging.

So who do you have in your life, whatever age you are, who mentors you, who influences you to grow? It might be a whole range of people.

But also, who are you mentoring? Who are you passing the baton on to? Uh, we're having, uh, something called, uh, Leadership Intensive, uh, coming up in the autumn, and we need mentors for those who are new leaders to our church or have been leading for a while.

Uh, so if you think you're sitting there and you think, "Do you know what? That's something that I could do," do have a word with myself or Nathaniel or Sarah, uh, or Tim or anybody, uh, on the leadership team, and we would, uh, love to talk to you about that.

But these older women and these older men are called to live lives that are so full of the worthiness and the beauty of the gospel that they are worthy of respect.

And so as he's got moved, they're having these other gods, if you like, in their life that they are bowing down to.

How do we keep that passion alive? And we are privileged here to have some people in their older years who are still so full of passion for the gospel of Jesus, and we are privileged.

If you haven't spoken to one of our older people in the church, do it today because it is rich.

There are some fantastic examples in the Bible, Caleb being one of them, of someone who is as wholehearted when he's 85 years old as he was when he was first called, uh, in his younger years.
