In 2015, Food Network Star contestant Cristie Schoen Codd and her husband JT Codd vanished from their North Carolina farmhouse - and the truth behind their disappearance turned out to be so unhinged…
sunday the 15th of march 2015 sunday afternoon but christy's show and cod's dad bill schoen can't get hold of her she was meant to be arriving in mississippi that day and her mum had actually spoken to her the day before so this was really out of character for her not to have said anything not to have gotten in touch At 3.32pm, Bill called the Buncombe County Sheriff's Office and asked them to do a welfare check on his daughter and her husband JT Codd.
This is about 15 miles west of Asheville, where 38-year-old Christy and 45-year-old JT had been living.
According to the search warrant, the door is actually opened for them by a neighbour, Cecilia Owen.
Now when the authorities arrive at the farmhouse where Christie and JT live, they can see straight away that the couple's cars are in the driveway.
However, that isn't hugely comforting because why then wouldn't they be answering the phone or calling anyone back? Where could they be? Also, the two dogs, the couple's two dogs have been left unattended.
Christie's purse, JT's wallet, they're still inside the house, which again, just raises more questions and causes more alarm.
They also find that although Christie and JT aren't in the house, there are a couple of things that point to, well, whatever they point to, it's not good.
Again, I'm not sure on the details of how they figured this out, but they realised pretty quickly that there's some jewellery missing.
There's also a laptop missing and a handgun that's usually kept in the house is gone.
The thing is, Christie actually owned three handguns and two are still there, but the fact that one is gone is odd.
The arrest warrants, which don't worry, I'll get there later, But specifically, they outlined that on that Sunday, a laptop, some jewellery and a Glock handgun had been stolen worth a combined around $1,500.
But when deputies did the original sweep of the house, they'd also noted that an iPad, a tablet, a revolver, ammunition and a ring were all still there.
It looks, in fact, like maybe those items were specific, maybe they were taken for a specific reason, or maybe this was just done to throw officers off and make it seem like there was a robbery.
i'll come back to that in a minute all of this all of the uh different information that's coming up as they're searching the house it causes officers to believe that the couple did not leave of their own choice there is a lot of conflicting information on this case well where there's any information at all to be honest i was actually really surprised at just how little information there is how few times it's been covered because It's a relatively recent case.
It's about someone who's been on TV, which usually those cases get picked up quick, but maybe because there isn't a huge amount of detail on it.
I'm not sure, but actually let's get into that, that TV... appearance and exactly who Christie and JT were, because you do need to know that for context of where we get to and where the investigation goes as well.
