Ender's Game

Uh, okay, my number seven, uh, we were getting a big budget movie for one of my favorite books that I read as a child that I re-read, like, every few years, that I've read probably 10 times in my life if I had to guess, and the movie was so wildly cheesy and boring and CGI-ed to hell that it really, really massively bummed me out.

Uh, it's Ender's Game.

Oh, okay.

Oh.

Although that could have.

And now that I'm thinking about it, probably could have and should have made my list.

Um, I loved Ender's Game.

The Ender's Game series when I was a kid-

In other words, you generally want to integrate them into your ranks, or at least make sure that they understand that, moving forward, peaceful coexistence is going to occur on your terms, and that they are going to understand and abide by those terms.

Otherwise, you haven't really won, have you? This brings up a bit of an Ender's Game problem.

In my opinion, one of the worst strategic mistakes one can make is getting overconfident and picking the boot up when it's on their opponent's throat.

When the fight is won, finish it.

I think of Deshaun Jackson or Chad Powers for fictional fans or those who don't remember the real life incidents.

Jackson did it twice, if I recall correctly, and those two are not the only people to drop the ball on the goal line celebrating a touchdown.

I call this an Ender's Game problem because I'm reminded of the fist fight in Ender's Game that got him suspended The question that set off basically the rest of the plot came when the headmaster, or whoever it was, all I remember is Harrison Ford from the movie version, asking Ender why he hadn't stopped hitting the bully after he'd won the fight and successfully defended himself.

Ender's reply was along the lines of, I wanted to make sure he didn't get back up.

And you're doing automation against automation.

It's like Ender's Game, except that it's practice.

Ender's Game actually was real, but you're constantly coordinating the stuff.

And it's just, I think that's going to definitely be the future.

It is.

Yeah.

I mean, that was the premise of the alien species from Ender's Game.

They just didn't even recognize humanity as a sentient life form.

I think it's kind of a weak hand wave for that story, but it, it's not an unreasonable thing or an impossible thing.

And then when, um, Suletta at the end gets the, the holder emblem and all of her clothes change color, um, obviously very cool, very sci-fi, very future clothing to be able to do that.

Wasn't that a thing in Ender's Game?

I have no idea.

I thought there was some kind of, like, color change-y thing that happened with the suits the-

I am school-sure

... kids wore in Ender's Game.

It's a pretty natural sci-fi idea, right?

It said that I read that someone wrote that it was a young adult dystopian arena style fiction that turns into a space opera.

And so I am interested to see where it goes, because it does read exactly like a young adult dystopian arena style fiction, you know, right? Hunger Games, Ender's Game.

Yeah.

Yes.

Sure.

Him walking her through the webbery and all of the women just silently like crying and reaching out to touch them I was I was tearing up for sure but it definitely I felt like it was Katniss laying Rue down in the field and covering her with flowers

right right there's a couple analogies to Ender's Game too that I kind of felt were really similar I He says that the women all see him as he's walking back, but that they won't betray him, that this is Io's silent requiem.

His sisters there, they bury Io.

that is a great question.

Is it inspirational or cautionary? I'm going to go with Ender's Game.

And it is inspirational.

And I think when I was a kid, I watched it, read the book first.

And I would call it just straight-up team-level leadership.
