Michelle Tyreen JohnsonHostSo I'm just going to kick it off because a quote of yours that I came across absolutely, like, describes my season because Race Unwrapped has a different... theme every season.
And so this season's theme is artist protest, artist social consciousness.
And so your quote was, our existence and our joy and our creativity, all of that is our activism.
I was like, hey
I mean, for me, look, being a Black woman in America, to put it mildly, is not the easiest thing.
And so every day that I get to live out my dream, every day I get to write stories that really resonate with universally but especially resonate for my community um every day i get a chance to represent myself and other people like me that we grew up not getting to see on tv and we get to not just normalize our existence but celebrate it
to me that feels like a breathing but also B, that in and of itself feels like activism because I didn't grow up with that necessarily.
And also all the messaging we sort of get from the world, and I'm saying this both as a parent and as a person who dreamed of a non-traditional career, that the messaging is people who look like us don't get to dream.
And so every day that I get to live this dream and by living this dream, encourage others to also live this dream and encourage generations that come up after me to also live their dream, their non-traditional dream, whatever that looks like, that in and of itself feels like activism.
I just think that as soon as you step out of your house, your home, wherever you live, into the world, and you even look happy as a Black woman.
And then if you open your mouth in certain situations and it's like, oh, and she's an educated one.
It's, it's, and you, and you recognize it because you see that body, that body shift that, that changes when you're in rooms where people don't know who you are.
