Silvia LopezGuestSusan RoseGuestWell, I know at the time this show airs, it's the end of September, but this came across my desk about a week ago and I wanted to bring it up.
The American Kennel Club celebrates September every year as National Pet Responsibility Month, but they also have this thing that they put out a few years ago called the Pet Promise.
Have you ever heard of this? It's a pledge that they adopted from their canine good citizen program.
It actually has nine specific promises and they're categorized into four categories of health, safety, safety.
And I thought that this would be something really cool to tell our listeners and viewers about because I think for families who are maybe adopting a pet for the first time or maybe haven't had a pet in a really long time, this is a really great way for the family to come together and to recognize the responsibility of caring for a new dog or a cat.
So Just real quick, the health promise talks about, of course, providing fresh water and quality food, regular vet visits, vaccinations, and that sort of thing.
The safety category includes making sure your dog or cat has an ID tag and a microchip, that you follow regular leash laws and rules.
And then the training promise has to do with teaching your dog commands, like, you know, just the basic ones like sit, stay calm, just for safety purposes.
It's almost also like a beginner's guide for everything you need to sort of have a handle on before you adopt or get a dog.
