Give it back. EP# 2124

I wanna jump into the Apple news.

All right, so last week we told you about how Apple was -- or people that had purchased the iPhone 18 Pro Max were having problems with AT&T.

Affected phones would completely lose cellular service.

You couldn't get calls, texts, mobile data, nothing.

It basically was dead.

So Apple has released iOS 27.0.1 and an AT&T carrier setting update to help you prevent this problem.

They recommend that you update this right away, even if you're not on AT&T.

AT&T carrier update will automatically reach users within 14 days.

Um, the software update cannot restore cellular service, though.

So this is what the problem is.

If you're on AT&T and your phone says SOS in the top corner on an iPhone 18 Pro Max, you have to take it in to get it replaced.

Apparently, it's not that many of them, and Apple's not making it difficult for you, so you can go into an AT&T store, or you can go into an Apple store, and you can just show them A- AT&T, SOS, and they'll swap out your phone.

Hopefully, you have it backed up to the iCloud and all that other stuff, which you can still do via Wi-Fi, so don't freak out about that.

And some stores will help you with migration services.

Uh, so far Apple says the problem affects only the iPhone 18 Pro Max models in the US on the AT&T network.

No other models or carriers have any known issues.

Uh, Apple has not said exactly what the problem is.

I just wanna mention something that we talked about technology-wise, uh, in a previous show.

All of the US iPhone Pro Maxes use a Qualcomm modem.

What is that? Okay, that's the chip that talks to the cellular networks.

Everywhere else worldwide, except for the US, so Europe, South America, Asia, et cetera, Africa, uh, the, you know, the poles.

I don't mean Poland.

I mean, you know, Antarctica and, and the North Pole.

If that's not the same thing, I don't know.

Uh, they use what's called the C2 modem, which is Apple's custom-built cellular modem.
