the thing you mentioned a moment ago about ps3 uh you know hoping it's a ps3 era it's been weird with the playstation 5 because like the opening of the ps5 was amazing like i not everyone liked the look at the console but it was the best upgrade in terms of hardware a playstation ever had the ssd 3d audio with a tempest engine uh the the dual sense controller all of that stuff was exceptional the psvr 2 like amazing and and the games were great uh that came out the returnal um uh spider spider-man miles morales was a launch game i can't remember but anyway it's been really good and it's it shows you i think how big titans in the space can throw it all away very quickly um And I think that there was a lot more stability where you could make mistakes and kind of cruise it.
M

And I think it's showing that the community can turn very quickly against you.
M

So I do think the resentment is not going to go anyway, even if they do try and save face on the physical front.
Why LTO Tape Still Backs Up the Cloud
C
7:20CornHOST
But here's the question Daniel raised.
C
7:22CornHOST
If tape is losing the density race to disk and SSD, why does it keep winning? Why is it still the archival backbone?
H
7:31Herman PoppleberryHOST
Economics first.
H
7:33Herman PoppleberryHOST
At multi-petabyte scale, tape's cost per terabyte is a fraction of flash or even hard disk.
H
8:20Herman PoppleberryHOST
And then there's the resilience side.
H
8:23Herman PoppleberryHOST
Right.
H
8:23Herman PoppleberryHOST
Tape has structural advantages that disk and SSD fundamentally can't match.
H
8:28Herman PoppleberryHOST
Hardware encryption on the cartridge itself.
We Killed $3000 of DDR5 Memory
T

Um, so it's, it's a fairly basic, like, it's funny talking about all the systems that you have around the place here, because I've got systems that are dedicated to all sorts of different things, like the podcast PC and the monitor test PC, the monitor test PC that uses a different brand of graphics cards.
T
60:38Tim SchiesserHOST
one of them is the monitor b-roll pc because there needs to be a pc there to connect to the monitors to use for the footage that i show in the videos and one of the problems i was having on that system not a huge problem of course is just no ssd space to install more games so i had it like a one it was a fairly basic system it's got a it has got a 7800x3d in it and an rtx 4080 so pretty powerful stuff still, you know, works fine.
T
61:03Tim SchiesserHOST
Not enough SSD space, clearly didn't put a big enough SSD.
T
61:06Tim SchiesserHOST
But the problem at the moment is, of course, going out and actually purchasing new SSDs that have large amounts of storage space, not something I exactly want to do.
T
61:15Tim SchiesserHOST
So I reached out to a whole bunch of different companies, was like, hey, do you want to just, you know, put an SSD in this system for me? It'd really help me out or whatever.
T
61:21Tim SchiesserHOST
And Samsung did come to the table and sent out one of their 9100 Pros.
T
61:26Tim SchiesserHOST
So it's like a PCIe 5.0 SSD.
T
61:29Tim SchiesserHOST
It's massive overkill for what I'm using it for, which is loading up games so that you can see some nice footage on there.

I can't talk, apparently.
C
54:51CodyHOST
Do you have two separate drives or do you partition your main SSD for your operating systems?
J
54:57JoeHOST
I have two separate drives.
C
54:58CodyHOST
Okay.
C
55:36CodyHOST
of having money to do it sooner or whatever.
C
55:40CodyHOST
And I found this one, I think it was an Asus board.
C
55:45CodyHOST
that had two SSD slots on it.
C
55:50CodyHOST
And then it talked about having an add-on PCI slot that you can run a slaved SSD on that you can use as storage that apparently will be accessible from both bootable drives.

from like 48,000 in the original DeepSeek v3 that kind of freaked out everyone, the R1 model, to 35,000 to 890.
E
28:47Emad MostaqueGUEST
So they're basically routing around the HBM memory that is so ridiculously expensive, moving things on to the SSDs, like a lookup table, this Ngram lookup, and onto DDR memory.
E
28:59Emad MostaqueGUEST
Because memory is just not there.
E
29:00Emad MostaqueGUEST
So the market and DeepSeek are finding a way to make memory not an issue, to scaling this up and making this available to everyone.
