This week I was doing mystery shopping.

I do this where I go out and I look at...

Well, I have an email alias, you know, and we see customers do this.

I had somebody who got my email address and they lived in South Dakota and they were shopping for a used 4Runner and she had a temporary email and I had to research why people use that email, and it was because it goes away and the emails get deleted, and it's

like this

alias thing.

But anyway, I have an alias that I've used for years and shop.

I mystery shop our dealership.

and the other local dealers as well as a lot of dealers in the area and some far away.

I want to know what the best is going on out there is and what's really happening.

This week I noticed another Toyota dealer in the state had a— I couldn't find – they have – everybody's forced to have transparent pricing now under the new FTC enforcement rules.

So you've got – it's supposed to be the first price, the most obvious price is that full out-the-door cash price.

Mm-hmm.

And this needs to show what your fees are and any dealer-added accessories and things like that that can change the value of the vehicle.

You can't put a price out there and then say, well, that's only if you finance with us or trade.

It has to be the full out-the-door price.

With all that disclosed.

So, I mean, it's a little bit, and look, to be honest, most of the industry is adapted to that.

But there are price stacks on the line now.

So it'll say the MSRP and then their discount and then the dealer-added accessories and their dock fee.

So that's often there.
