E149: Jordan Kyrou traded to the Washington Capitals - How did the Blues do?

This is the biggest trade the Blues have made in a pretty long time, it feels like, just in terms of the caliber of player that they're sending away, the size of that contract, pretty sizable return as well.

So the deal itself.

The Blues are sending Jordan Cairo to the Washington Capitals in exchange for, as I mentioned at the top, forward Connor McMichael, forward prospect Milton Gastron, and the 16th overall pick in this year's draft.

Alec, I want to know, other than what I saw seconds after I told you what happened, I want to know what your initial, or I guess secondary reaction is to this trade.

Yeah.

Yeah.

I mean, it's the trade we all knew was coming and kind of had to happen for Kairu's side, for the team's side.

And so, yeah, I think initial reaction for those who maybe are watching this episode first or so is that it was just that feeling of inevitability, of that it was bound to happen.

and then once the return broke.

To me, that feels probably about right as to what you could get for Kairu.

I would say this is somewhere in the middle of a return.

That's about, I think, what you would expect, especially the pick that's coming back is the 16th overall pick.

That's nothing to sneeze at.

So I think in that sense, a top half draft pick is still something that the Blues can absolutely utilize and utilize pretty well.

And so, yeah, but...

Secondary reaction, you know, excuse me, having more time to stew on it and everything in and sort of now thinking about the return and everything more.

I think my ultimate feeling is it's just.

not the direction that I would have gone unless it's sort of being parlayed into something else, which it sounds like there's a very good chance of.

However, at this time of recording, I can't really speak on that as that's mostly just, that's entirely just rumors at this point.

But if that's, if they can turn this around into something, you know, really, really exciting, then that will work.

Maybe recontextualize some of the things that we have to say in this episode, but I think that as of right now, it's just not the direction that I would have gone.

I think that the Blues have...

I mean, A, have a lot of draft capital, and so I think you could get a player in return if that's what they had been looking for.

Who's to say? Maybe they did in other deals, but this is the one that they ended up pushing the button on.

And so I – especially for the caliber of player that Kairou has proven to be throughout his career, I feel like you could get – a, a really good supplementary piece to help you, if not also package some other stuff with it to turn it into, you know, something really good.
