We walk through the All-American singles draws and predict the NCAA qualifiers from each section. Follow us on Twitter @JTweetsTennis and Instagram…
Hey everyone, I know we just dropped an episode yesterday, but today, Wednesday, begins the All-American Singles Championships main draw.
And so with that, we have to do a little bit of a draw preview and predictions, talk a little bit about who the final qualifiers were that filled in the remaining spots in the draw.
Just a solo episode today, and my plan is to live react to these draws as they have just dropped.
But before we do that, we have to talk about the players that advanced into the main draw from qualifying.
And as we mentioned on yesterday's episode with Adam, All Americans is the largest single event that we have on the calendar, certainly for any individual championship you have a pre-qualifying draw of over 128 you have qualifying draws and main draws of 64 it is a lot of players competing in this event and one of the hardest things to do is to make it all the way from pre-qualifying into the main draw you have to win five straight matches to do that and so overall there were six players who completed that feat won five matches you have three on the women's side three on the men's side On the women's side, you have two Georgia players who advance.
You have freshman Bella Payne, who probably should have been in at least the qualifying draw.
She got really slighted by not being one of the top 20 newcomers.
And then you have Patricia Paxaiti, who played by the end of the season, was in the sixth spot there for the Georgia Bulldogs.
And then the final woman who made it through into the main draw is Anna Frye.
Anna Frye was playing lower half of the lineup for North Carolina in her freshman debut.
She has gotten off to a really good start in her sophomore season.
She's 10-0.
She won five straight matches, including beating her teammate Alanis Hamilton in the Milwaukee Tennis Classic.
That was one of the events we didn't talk about yesterday because I feel like that field has gotten... less strong over the years.
But Anna Frye did win that event.
And then she wins five straight matches from pre-qualifying into the main draw.
Her final match there in qualifying, beating Chloe Noel 6-4, 6-2 of Oklahoma.
So a really impressive showing for Anna Frye.
Now she did make it from pre-qualifying into the main draw, but I've excluded her from this list of six players because she did lose in pre-qualifying and then got into qualifying as a lucky loser.
But nevertheless, she did advance, but just didn't win five matches.
She only won four.
So those were the players on the women's side.
So a really good run from him.
